I tested a tiny tart and was wondering about the result I got. When the liquid hit the powder, the parts that DID turn, turned purple within 3 seconds. But there were a few small spots within that did not seem to turn at all, they remained clear. The pills were ok when we took them, we figured (and hoped)that it was maybe the bonding agent holding the pill together that did not turn. The pills were very hard pressed and tiny. My question is, if there was a clear spot or two mixed within the purple, could it have been just the bonding material or something dangerous? If this has already been addressed, I apologize, I did do a search and did not find anything. Thanks.

Hi JJ,
I think your assumption is probably right: bonding agent.
Next time, scrape more than a little from the side of the pill, make sure the sample is crushed into fine powder, spread it out, then test.
Overall, the entire sample should go purple/black (in this case, for your pill). If not, the bonding agent must be VERY strong and of high content in this sample, or the MDxx content extremely low...either way, the pill would be average at best.

I'll just confirm it ;-)
I've seen a reaction like this with a tulip once, since I was wondering what it could be I brought it to the lab.
They did the test as well and then looked up the pill in the DIMS database.
It turned out to be 120 mg of mdma.
