I was wondering if your eyesight begins to improve after quitting drinking? I started noticing my vision getting blurry about a month ago and have been drinking heavily for the past year or so. I am currently tapering down at six five percent beers a night and my vision is still blurry. Before I was drinking 12-15 higher percentage beers throughout the day. I am 27.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hopefully someone with experience of your specific situation, but from what I understand regarding neurcognative function, your eyesight should return to normal. Make an appointment with an optomotrist to be safe though, just in case you have something more serious and non-alcohol withdrawal going on

I noticed when I quit drinking (17 year alcoholic) my eyesight got significantly better. My eyes still get tired fairly quick staring at a screen (computer, phone) but have improved significantly in the two years I have been sober. They are still very sensitive to light, and sensitive in general and will water easily. It doesn't sound like you have near the alcohol problem I did (17 years - 20 +/- beers a night) so I would be hopeful that your vision dramatically improves, and much quicker than mine did.

Kudos on wanting a healthier life! Good luck!

Blood pressure and hydration will have an impact on vision, and the effects will be more apparent if those two factors are constantly changing wildly. Another thing to consider is blood glucose level. I know I almost drank myself to prediabetes, and my vision was at the worst around that time. One thing that helped me when I was hitting it hard was to stay vigilant about medical screenings. Once every three months I would get my bloodwork done to check organ function etc. I saw an optometrist twice a year. I've had the same prescription for glasses my entire life, and nothing was ever found regarding vision changes from drinking. You may want to schedule appointments to have everything checked out. If you tell them you're an alcoholic they'll do the tests you need. Good luck!
