Hello everyone.

SWIM is hoping someone here can put his mind at ease or in his case, his eyelid. So here's his story. SWIM tried MDMA for the first time about 6 months ago (he's 25) and instantly fell in love. Up until then all he did was smoke green and drink alcohol. Since then he has been using it every weekend which he now knows wasn't very clever. Sunday gone was the last time he dosed. He woke up feeling fine on Monday but on tuesday he had developed terrible brain zaps and had what he thinks was a mini seizure in bed that night. When he thinks back now, he remembers having the brain zaps but they where nowhere near as bad. If he had known about serotonin syndrome then he would have stopped taking the MD so frequently. So the zaps where still there that Friday but he also noticed a twitch in his right eyelid that evening and thought nothing of it. Only thing is, the zaps seemed to have stopped when he woke up on saturday but the eyelid twitch was still there and is still there as I type this. I he looks in the mirror he can actually see the twitch. Has anybody heard of this happening before? He is very happy the brain zaps have stopped and is falling asleep easier but the eyelid twitch is really worrying him.

Thank you all in advance

Hi Livefast, welcome to Bluelight.

Firstly, we don't use SWIM here. Please review the Bluelight User Agreement, specifically paragraph one under prohibited use and edit SWIM / use of the third person / etc out of your post. It does nothing to protect you, we know you're talking about yourself.

Brain zaps are more likely to be caused by serotonin depletion due to over-frequent use of MDMA. It's very unlikely to be serotonin syndrome, especially given they kicked in a couple of days after your last dose. Bit of a longer rest to recover between doses would probably serve you well, weekly dosing can be draining, it takes longer than that typically for serotonin levels to be restored to normal levels. Can't speak as to the cause of the eyelid twitch, it may be just tiredness or stress, some recommend magnesium and potassium as it may be caused by an imbalance of electrolytes, especially if you've missed a few solid meals while you're on it / recovering. They'll usually disappear as suddenly as they started, if it continues beyond a few days you might wanna visit your doc just for some reassurance there's nothing else going on but ordinarily it shouldn't be a great cause for concern.

Hi Sepher. Thanks for getting back to me so fast..your post was very reassuring. Sorry about the SWIM thing, it wont happen again. I think you could be right about tiredness or stress causing the twitches..well I hope you are anyway :) My anxiety has been through the roof thinking I was stupid enough to give myself Serotonin syndrome. Even though it's most likely not, I have still learned alot from this experience. I've done alot of reading that should have been done 6 months ago. I'm definitely going to sleep better tonight thanks to you. Nice one

Livefast, I am not a doctor but serotonin syndrome is, in most cases, caused my the mixing of two drugs that both increase serotonin. However, it is definitely possible with MDMA. But SS is an illness with a very fast onset (minutes). You get very, very, very ill...fever, confusion, involuntary muscle movements, nausea, tremors and sweating are some symptoms...many people become hospitalized over it. Again I am NOT a doctor but just something to think about.
