Stimulants Extreme neck shoulder muscle spasms - is it from dexedrine??

there must be a way to channel that excess stimulation/energy somewhere :) other than furiously masturbating. I find i get the same thing with anxiety, clear up one issue, anxiety manifests itself in another way, clear that up and it keeps moving on. Physiologically i'd like to know how the hell that works lol

on especially fiendish stims when i am binging i notice the ticks, i'll push my tongue in on my teeth, i'll fidget, all sorts of things, grinding my teeth is a big one and not being conscious of clenching my jaw is another. On my normal dexedrine dose it's not really a huge issue or something i notice really, dexedrine is pretty smooth and is not near as prone to such issues as other stimulants, like ethylphenidate for example which will bring out every negative effect possible for me at least.

I think it's a manifestation of anxiety or too much NE pumping through the body (or dopamine as well, especially regarding ticks), it's like soothing to be doing multiple things at once rather than just one thing so your body starts doing these other things to occupy that energy or compulsion to do a bunch of things. Which is kind of like having ADD in the first place. I wonder if other people notice this as well, it really only becomes apparent to me on a binge or if i'm high dosing. I don't often binge these days so it's not something i generally have to deal with but being conscious of it is extremely important. It's like i know better sometimes but i just end up not doing things like catching the muscle tension before it gets worse. Stupid old brain, it's like a maladaptive tendency that is a carry over from our ancestors.

yes this is what i was reading about last night, sounds exactly like what's going on. Caffeine does seem to help actually. As for muscle relaxants, what's the gold standard these days carisoprodol? anti inflammatories don't help whatsoever unfortunately. I even have some ketorlac around if it gets too bad but that's a nasty NSAID. I could get some tylenol with codeine but i really would prefer not to touch an opiate at this point.

i do have this strange cross bite thing with my jaw the dentist (seemed very rare to them) was worried that i may experience severe pain from it one day. That could be a factor as well.

going to look into getting a neck pillow, the pain is fucking outrageously bad. Even no stimulants today, muscle still fucking seized up, i feel like jabbing it with a needle would make it retract lol. I get nasty muscle tension though and that's how it starts out, it used to just stay that way, now it climbs up into my neck and into my head. i can't go the opiate route being a former opiate addict and just quitting completely over the last year. But i can definitely get some carisoprodol or other muscle relaxers if needed. This is just bullshit, every time i clear up a mental issue, i get a physical one in return it seems. I need my neck to be in good shape for the next 30 years at least!

btw i'm not getting high on my stims, that's just my dose for ADD. It's the fact it's only on my right side that suggests something is strange. if i am stimmed to hell, yeah muscle tension becomes an issue but i will get pain everywhere. I've had the left side chest pain anxiety issue many times and this is much different, purely physical. In this case it's 3 muscles or muscle groups that spasm only on one side. It's definitely a combination of things causing it. I eat healthy enough though, stretch, am active, am 27 years old and always have enough magnesium, potassium, calcium in my diet among all other essential nutrients. Only issues - i may sometimes let myself get dehydrated when i'm not paying attention.

My posture is generally good and i'm always aware of it but even sometimes when i am studying non stop i'll get massive muscle tension but generally won't spasm. Sometimes when i am working on electronics it's just impossible to maintain good posture and that may be a problem. In the last month though it's just been getting worse and worse, only thing i've changed is i cut my loperamide dose from 10mg (after being on that for several months) to 0mg. Which didn't have any impact at first. Other than that, i don't know wtf is up.

I figure my Dr will be useless in getting me any help whatsoever so if i can avoid seeing him that would be ideal. What do they do for you at ER? CT scans or anything like that? I think with an x-ray or a CT scan it'll be quite obvious that the muscle is contracted and stuck.

thanks for the help though much appreciated as well as the input from everyone else.
Im always one for prescriptions to ease the problem/keep the person comfortable whilst treating the problem holistically/naturally - but have you seen your GP/PCP and seen if perhaps a pain management clinic (if its been going on for a long time) and some physical therapy (or like you said "just jamming a needle in there feels like it would relieve some pressure" sounds exactly like accupuncture/accupressure to me haha! Reiki is also an option but you must be open minded to subtle energies in order to respond to treatments) - Could give you? Carisoprodol is most certainly the best muscle relaxer - but most doctors won't prescribe what's most efficacious sadly in today's world of DEA/FDA oppression. Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine) is probably what you'd get (which works but I hate that its an anticholinergic/antihistamine skeletal muscle relaxant - I don't like anything like that, where skeletal muscle relaxant comes secondary...but the drugs out there beside flexeril are even less efficacious so Id take what you can get).

Id try asking for Soma because its worked for these muscle spams in the past and if they diagree - explain to them you are highly sensitive or allergic to anti-cholinergics/anti-histamines despite their skeletal muscle relaxants - if they still insist - take your rx and explain to them it did nothing and that unless they have a better idea Carisoprodal was the only thing that's ever worked. Most patients after explainings these things and being compliant anyway will be able to get an RX for a muscle relaxant that actually works (Ie soma and predecessors) haha.

Hope you figure it out man. Im in your same boat but also with a slipped disc at S1-L5 compressing my sciatic nerve and my knees and ankles buckle/don't balance well and the overcompensation from my other sides - TMJ (With the stims) and from bad sleeping habits (couch) the way I sleep etc all compound ontop of each other; but I also get these spasms and stuff that you talk about from vyvanse aswell as dexedrine IR/XR (although no where near as much as adderall XR or IR) but the doctors want to tie these all into the disc or some other all encompassing disorder when clearly whats going on is multidisciplinary IMHO. Ill get to the bottom of it probably a year from now (if Im lucky - sarcasm and lack of faith in the medical system heavily implied...)

hope this helps!

PS IMO one ER to another will give you whole new diagnosis - and only check what they think the singular problem is...when most of the times is NOT a singular thing but multiple - and usually multidisciplinary. I had 3 x rays - 2 cat scans ( was refused an MRI even though it called for it and they don't even pay for it my health care and I do - and their reason was "It costs too much") and in the end only the Sports Medicine people found my slipped disc on an X Ray (how a ct scan and all those other x rays missed it? lazy radiologists? who the fuck knows? just not caring about your patients??)...and they were no help other than pinning down part of the problem. ER will give you pain meds and a small script if the pain is unbearable.
