Extreme magnesium sensitivity?

I cant believe just how sensitive I am to common old garden magnesium.

Im finding it hard to find a good dose without having annoying side effects.

I have been cutting up a multviamin in smaller and smaller pieces.

I take it for the muscle relaxation and sleep effects.

I do get a good sleep once I finally drop off but the negative side effects for me are that I find it harder to drop off if I take too much and also my muscles seem to relax too much like jelly such that a few times I get a really bad shoulder socket on the side I had been sleeping on it feels like its minorly dislocated or something. Ive had it where my shoulder hurts for over a week after just taking magnesium for one night.

Is there any other common vitamin which could maybe counteract those extreme effects a bit?

Im so sensitive to it that I take as little as around 10 mg and still suffer the negative effects above. I dont get how its so powerful on me.

Im interested in getting rid of the negatives because I do have trouble getting a restful sleep and magnesium seems to work great for that and its very benign/healthy, if i could get rid of these annoying side effects.

I spose ill try cutting the dose in half again to a couple of milligrams. I really dont understand how it has such a strong effect on me tho when ppl take 500mg plus of the stuff. I did that a couple times before and felt seriously bad like id been poisoned similar to some stronger drug.

This has been quite a nuisance because its meant ive not been able to take a simple multivitamin cos all of them have the rda of magnesium which is way too much for me, so i havent been able to get the other vitamins because of it. any workaround for that? i do eat alot of fruit still but probably im missing out on some vitamins.

try supplementing calcium and a good form of zinc. alot of multis skimp on the zinc or use garbage forms. That might help balance you out

You're taking a multivitamin. How do you know that it's the magnesium that's causing this? Get magnesium capsules, open those and try different doses.
Do you have any condition?

because ive taken magnesium -just those 100% big chalky pills :P- on its own before and same effect.

OP, maybe it's better to get magnesium from natural food such as raw spinach, mackerel and pumpkin seeds.

Have you considered that maybe you don't actually have a magnesium deficiency and therefore your supplementation is just going overboard? If sleep and relaxation are your issues then there are so many herbal options available without overburdening your body with vitamins and minerals.
