Hey there, I've searched this forum for phentermine questions and it looks like the last one was awhile ago, so I thought I'd try this.

I am prescribed phentermine 37.5 mg. daily. I've had alot of side effects like shaky hands, insomnia, teeth grinding and weight loss. I've lost about 20 pounds since I started and that's great, but I am not sure if taking phentermine regularly is a good way to treat my attention deficit disorder. Doctor says it's safe but who knows. I've heard that using phentermine for long periods isn't very safe.

I'd rather take something like Adderall or Ritalin long term. Anyone else have issues with phentermine? What do you do to avoid side effects?

Phentermine is no more or less dangerous than Adderall, your doctor is talking out of his ass. In fact I'd argue that Phentermine is more stressful on the heart but I don't have the science to back this up.

There is nothing you can do to curb the "side" effects short of stopping altogether, because what you describe is actually the main effect of the drug. After all, it is meant for weight-loss, not concentration (although to be fair it does help a bit with the latter IME).

thanks for the quick response. Yes, I think my doctor is full of it but he does not agree that I should be diagnosed with ADD and then treated with appropriate drugs.

I do have a benzo prescription but the phentermine is kicking my ass so I'd rather quit using if I can.

Adderall or Ritalin offer stronger therapeutic effects with less side effects. Period. Your doctor is an idiot if he is treating you ADD with phentermine.

I appreciate the posts. Yeah, I'm going to see if I can find another doctor who can help out more. I don't think there have been any studies on long term use of phentermine, and it's my belief he is prescribing phentermine for off-label use. He also prescribed Seroquel for my insomnia and that's definitely not what it was designed to treat.

what the are normal dosages when taking phentermine? I see the highest dosage pill they make is 37.5mg, so would be it safe to take two 37.5mgs phenterime pills?

Im just wondering cuz I found a bottle of these in my moms cabinet and wanna make sure they are nothing bad or something she souldn't be taking.. And if they aren't good for your heart why are doctors prescribing this hit??

Taking 2x37.5mg will leave you feeling like absolute shit.

Phenteramine is prescribed for weight loss when other drugs don't do the trick. Or at least it should be.

ive found phentermine to be much smoother than adderall, very little to no anxiety/muscle tension. and thats at a dose around 10x37.5 pills. ya im a speedfreak.

but op, if youre losing too much weight, getting bad side effects, youre simply taking too much. if youre losing weight, that sounds like binging to me. try reducing your dosing.
