My doctor said it’s super dangerous to exercise on Adderall is this true and if so to what extent? He said I need to get my workout done before I take it but to me I’d rather have taken it first.

If you can track your heart rate, and aren’t getting it too much higher than you would in a normal workout, it shouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.

Amphetamines have been the performance enhancing drug of choice in baseball for quite some time, so there is a fairly broad sample of people who use it and exercise at a very high level.

That being said it likely is less healthy than exercising without it.

I'm on vyvanse and I asked my psych about exercise, he said just not do work out during the morning when I take it. either late afternoon or morning before and to just listen to my body, if I don't feel good pushing myself at a certain time then adjust

This is exactly it - you shouldn't exercise while taking stimulants as they are taking effect (as there is extra dopamine and norepinephrine being released as part of the stimulant/therapeutic effect of the drug). DA and NE both increase cardiac activity and can also impact blood flow to the extremities. This is why sometimes people taking stimulants experience cold hands or even see their fingertips turn white while their hands are red - this is known as Raynaud's syndrome. This is a symptom of increased vascular activity and reduced capillary flow, basically your blood flow is occurring more quickly but staying closer to the center of your body versus the extremities.

So: exercise requires blood flow to be effective in building muscle. If you exercise when your blood vessels are constricted, you'll strain your heart more and your muscles will get less blood.

However, as the day goes on and your amphetamine dose has stabilized, blood vessels start to relax a bit as the acute effects of the stimulant aren't causing as much constriction. During the afternoon/evening - you start to experience a drop in DA/NE due to the drug wearing off, but, physical exercise is really good at helping to regenerate your normal dopamine and adrenaline production. So as you start to wind down on the dose of the drug, exercise helps to strengthen your blood flow, improve DA and NE activity, and this also seems to improve the impact of tolerance on the amphetamine users.

So, my recommendation is this:

Take extended release formulations if you need a stimulant for a full day of work, or immediate release if your workday is more concentrated - Exercise should happen either A) before you take your first dose, or B) after your dose has been active for 4-6 (instant) or 6-8 (extended release) hours.

I would also recommend taking supplemental magnesium prior to working out as magnesium helps with managing tolerance and improves blood flow, especially when used alongside stimulants. It will help with the crash, it helps curb tolerance a bit, and it also helps with improving the impact of exercise while reducing strain on your cardiovascular system.

I can track it so I will and thank you

sounds reasonable thanks!

I really appreciate all of this info and will implement these practices!

Trying to find the right dosing. Does anybody know if XR has as bad of a comedown? I feel like my IR comes on so fast but same for when it leaves…

Saw that you asked about this but hadn't been in this thread for a bit - If you're still wondering about this I would say that XR tends to have a less intense crash as the duration of action is extended and the 'peak' and 'trough' phases aren't as extreme. XR formulations can be less likely to cause an urge to redose (less compulsive) which is also a nicer feature. The downside to XR dosing can be that residual stimulation can linger later in the day so if using for work you may find that you're still a bit stimulated into the evening hours.

My suggestion is to give XR dosing a shot - assuming you're being prescribed your stimulant, speaking candidly about your rationale for wanting to change from IR to XR as an experiment with the intention of revisiting it at a later time can be helpful That way, if you decide you'd rather return to IR dosing down the road, your prescriber is more informed as to the rationale for switching which formulation you want to be prescribed.

Over the years, I've rationed a backstock of both IR and XR that I replenish over time by reducing my doses on certain days. This gives me the option to dose with what I need for that day, rather than being tied to one form of the medication I have been most recently prescribed. It takes discipline, but it's worth it as some days I only have 4 or 5 hours of work total, while other days I might be working for 9-10 hours straight.

It’s a lot more dangerous with Ephedrine. Amphetamine isn’t as peripherally active as Ephedrine.

Ephedrine was sold as a sports supplement too … go figure.

Depends on your age n stuff. If you're young and relatively healthy you should be fine.
.
If your older then just be careful. Listen to your body.

Exercising on stimulus great! Dancing is exercise right,?
