The trial of a 15-year-old girl being charged with transporting cocaine, a class two felony, was called off last week after a judge suppressed 26 pounds of cocaine found in her father's car from being admitted as evidence against her.

The drugs were discovered by an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer during a traffic stop on the Interstate 40, 15 miles outside of Flagstaff, in May. On Aug. 3, a Coconino County Juvenile Court judge ruled that the roadside search of the father's car was unconstitutional.

In a lengthy written opinion from Judge Ted Reed, he wrote that even though the warrantless search was in violation of their rights, the law would have allowed the cocaine to be admitted as evidence if the state could prove it would have eventually been found regardless.

DPS had claimed that the officer was doing an inventory of the vehicle when he broke into a double-locked toolbox in the trunk of the SUV. The agency declined requests to provide the girl's defense attorney with a copy of their standard inventory procedures until after the case.

If they had a K9 'alert' that's all the cause they needed. I don't see why they would break into a toolbox without a 'K9 alert'. It's very easy to do in-fact the police were very very stupid if they didn't. I've been 'alerted' on before more than once by false 'alerts'... I find it hard to believe the police were so stupid they didn't bring a dog to get PC... But I guess it's possible they didn't. I wonder if the lawyer charged a premium and cut a little deal with the judge...

What does that mean? And that's a lot of coke for a 15 year old to have...

What's a short bus!? =D I think it means, you pay your lawyer extra, then your lawyer will bribe the judge, or otherwise influence the judges decision somehow. Which would be pretty fucked up.

^ happens where I moved to recently every day. I've heard and seen absolutely crazy this stuff. I know a dude in his 50's that lives maybe 10 miles away. He regularly gets drunk, holding a bottle of whiskey with a gun and marijuana and drives down the road at 100MPH, no trouble whatsoever. He lives in a mansion. I think his money has something to do with his lack of trouble.
