it seems now that after all the flaming regarding posting repeat threads or topics even closely resembling someone elses, everyone has become chicken shit. Every new thread from a new bluelighter or greenlighter has in their message, ps. i searched already, obviously now chicken shit due to being flamed in the past. Please be nice to these people in future as it is getting ridiculous. i mean it's not that great an issue if a new thread is even similar to one posted weeks ago, is it??

The worst I have done when closing someone's thread and repremanding them is to be a little curt, I have never flamed anyone... Most of the time the other mods haven't either... (I know this wasn't directed at me tho...)
People need to stand up for themselves more, if someone thinks they have been flamed, they should say something to the person who they think flamed them, or to someone else who can do something about it... Nearly all the time we mods are very civil, and sometimes too nice when doing our job, but if we do something which someone doesn't like, they should say something otherwise we're not going to know, and we're not going to change (or we're going to keep offending people who are a little oversensitive or unable to determine the tone people use online even when clear indicators such as smilie faces are used)
Regardless I think it's good that people are saying 'don't flame me I did do a search' ...that's what people should be doing, if you don't do a search when you're clearly asked to do so in the guidelines which are clearly shown at the top of the forum, then you're clearly doing something wrong... So someone saying they did a search doesn't automatically confer upon them 'chicken shit' status, they could just be stating that they did what they're supposed to do and it didn't get anywhere so they're now starting a new thread... No need for you to automatically assume they're chicken shit narks...
Some people just can't understand the difference between a simple correction or friendly criticism, and a flame... And that is mentioned in the guidelines too...
And it is a big issue if someone starts a thread that was made a week ago because people post the same things over and over and make statements which have already been made over and over and ask questions which have already been answered over and over...
It's fine to discuss things which have already been discussed, but its not fine to have a few threads which all say exactly the same thing even to the point of the same people saying exactly the same thing...
That kind of thing is fine in the 'New to XTC' forum where some people appear, ask a question, then disappear... But here where people tend to stick around for a little longer, there's no need to make the place so cluttered and disorganised...

Rules are rules, they are there to be read and followed. I think it just shows that they are doing the right thing now. I personally make sure i'm as polite as possible if telling a Green/Bluelighter to use the Search button.
I think this just shows that new members need to be shown the relevant guidelines, before they can make posts.
Things a couple of weeks old, don't need another topic brought up. If its a couple of months old, then maybe, but there is the issue of bandwidth as well. Yes we have a new server, but its still needs to be looked after.

Yer this is a discusion board not a read past thread board and then bump them.
Sure some threads are utter crap and should be closed, but bluelight AU threads are getting a bit boring, theres never anything new to read. Thats worth reading.

I'm not in a good mood atm (not a result of this thread tho) so I'm going to be a 'little curt'
To the_man and everyone else who doesn't like the content of the australian Social forum at the moment or at any time in the future...
Contribute or don't complain!
If you don't like what there is to read, contribute something worth reading! There's no point complaining if you don't help to make it better!
...I need some panadol...

Just like to say that almost every time I've seen a thread closed in this forum it has been well within reason and done politely. If it was a greenlighter, then they are told nicely about the rules.
Well Done dud0rs.

The search button is soo slow anyway, and i have cable ..i feel sorry for people with dial up who try and use it.
Meh, just a bad day i think.

PLEO...... R U GETTING A HUGE SENSE OF DE JA VOU HERE?
seriously tho... if u want to make it better, say something interesting, start an interesting thread. And your whinging has been done before
Its like going to the movies right? Sometimes EVERY single film is good and you want to see them all, then sometimes you look at the paper and... NOTHING of interest to you..
It comes in waves so get used to it!
IF u want to whine about it, pick up the phone and call someone who gives a shit. :)

Now why did I just know a thread like this was going to be started soon...
This is a moderated message board with rules that have to be followed. The reason for this is because of the sheer amount of traffic that the board gets. If anyone could post anything they wanted then this place would be a total shambles.
As for greenlighters getting their posts closed - everyone can get their posts closed if they should be. Hell, I closed two threads recently - one started by Mr Horse and one by johnboy. The reason that more greenlighter threads get closed is because frankly, they fuck up more often than bluelighters. And this happens because they don't spend long enough lurking and just responding before launching themselves into starting threads of their own.
As harsh as it sounds, people need to get a feel for the culture of a new place before coming in and doing things that often are wrong. Now I don't want to discourage new people from getting involved, but I would like to encourage people to have a look around and test the water for a while rather than jumping in feet first in the deep end.
Ultimately though, what it boils down to is that if you don't like it, then go somewhere else.
Thankyou, have a nice day. :)
{edit}
Hell yeah bunny - severe de ja vu! I think we are in agreement this time though... ;)

just curious, blue bunny fluff, that comment aimed directly at me or everyone as a whole?
i'm not so much complaining but making an observation from the outside!

My attorney PLEONASTIC has advised me not to answer that question as it may offend you. ;)

so much 4 "PLUR"
FUCK PLUR is what many BLers & myself say
every1 has an opinion & i agree with the fact that greenlighters don't know what they're doing 2 begin with ... but some bluelighters r getting flamed for putting up threads where they want opinions from other bluelighters
i think some bluelighters should either get their heads out of other bluelighters arses or get their heads out of the sky & join us fun ppl, & stop thinking they're top shit ... i've seen this happen with friends from high school & i sure as hell wont be apart of it here, if it happens here
TC
p.S i'm not being a BITCH i'm expressing my opinion

I reckon the mods past and present are doing are great job.
We take them for granted soo much - can you imagine social without moderation? We'd have 5 different threads on the same frivilous topic (ie do you like what flick on neighbours was wearing last night?) and people asking questions which have been answered before - how boring would that be?
Yes, we are running out of topics in social - but that forces us to come up with more interesting ones. It ain't easy making a thread interesting to such a diverse range of people who really don't have much in common.
*Applause to those who try and don't just complain*
Keep up the good work mods :)

I know I know...let's have a month of absolutely no moderation - let Tars / Pleo / Fin and Mikey have a month off and see where it takes social.
We can call them the 'Dark Ages'
Then at the end we'll ask people which they prefer. Current level of moderation vs less moderation (we should always flame fuckers who try to solicate drugs). The rules were made by bluelighters and shoule be reviewed if they are an issue.

i agree with u nezo we do need moderators, this site would be shot 2 pieces if we didn't have them
but what Narks is saying is that Blers r being flamed 4 not 'doing a proper search' & I think every1 should just back off & let ppl express their opinions rather than having the dominated ppl ruling the site
EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINIONS

Just out of interest, can someone show me a few threads where people have actually been flamed?
I know of a couple of instances, but in most cases no flaming has taken place...

^^^^^
Good point Tars.
It depends on your definition of a flame. I've closed threads with a semi-smartarse comment, but I have never properly flamed someone when doing it (well, that I can remember anyway). The only time I would consider a full flaming is if they were asking for drugs or something like that. :)
