5mg of (pure) DOC should have been a pretty strong trip. Although SSRI's feel relatively subtle (though debatable, especially at high doses), they seem to preferentially block the serotonin receptors, effectively blocking the psychedelic effects of other 5-HT agonists. I'd imagine taking a serotonergic drug on Zoloft/Sertraline would lead to very little/no psychedelic effects (though some other effects may be there). As an anecdotal, I recently took 4 (apparently strong) doses of LSD (which should have blown my head apart if true) on the evening of a day where I dosed 50mg Zoloft (I dose in mornings). This lead to a very weak trip, with little more than slight distortions occurring, hard to quantify the loss of effect, as I didn't know the starting doses of LSD in the first place, but something like an 80-90% reduction in the intensity I would have expected. A similar thing can happen with MDMA. The effect of the Zoloft on reducing MDMA's effects are seemingly minimal with a 3 day break from the Zoloft. Tryptamines seem to be most heavily affected, the Phenethylamines less so (which may be because of the additional dopaminergic effects).
I'm still on Zoloft (taking 50mg every 2 days, so 25mg/day), but have taken doses up to (I think) 200mg/day in the past. I tolerate the drug very well, so have felt no need to change it (though do worry a little about long term serotonin receptor down-regulation), though may try Bupropion at some stage. I find lower doses are just as effective as the higher doses for my needs (mild/moderate depression, anxiety etc.), but with significantly reduced side effects.
I am aware of the adverse side effects of quiting my anti-depressant, but I have only been taking this medicine 13 days now, not nearly long enough to get the real effects of it.
Actually, I have found that the initial effects of Zoloft works very rapidly (within 2-3 hours of dosing after taking an extended break from it), where it has some mood enhancement and anxiety reducing effects. This effect then gradually ramps up to its full effect after around 2-4 weeks. I will say though, that I have found Zoloft to be very effective, and way better in both effect and tolerability of side effects than the other 2 SSRI's I've been on (Fluoxetine and Citalopram). The half-life of Sertraline is I believe around 20-30 hours, so some effect can still be derived from psychedelics if the Sertraline is not taken for a few days. However, as other posters have suggested above, it may not be practical or safe to do so.
