Etizolam, Withdrawals or just anxiety?

Hi there,

I'd been taking etizolam for quite a while, probably around a year. usually 2-4mg to get to sleep. I've now not had any since Sunday as I need to come off them as a new job (couple of months away) requires drug testing. They aren't illegal but may show as a Benzo i guess? Either way, I really should come off them. I was also taking them occasionally on days where i felt anxious.

As i said, I've been off them since Sunday. I tried last week but had a couple of really bad days where i felt i needed to have 1-2mg. I'm now feeling quiet anxious but I'm not sure if I am suffering withdrawal or if it's just the anxiety that i would take them for.

I'm going to the DR this week, should i mention I was taking them, or just look for help in general with anxiety. I'm resigned to the fact there's nothing I can do about sleep, I've had the problem for years and was prescribed 2 weeks worth of Temazepam a few years back which didn't work at all.

Anyway, thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi,

From the duration and amount of etizolam it does sound like you are suffering from withdrawal, fortunately it sounds like it relatively mild. If I were you I would consult the Dr and tough it out, you will feel better in a week or two and a benzo addiction is something nobody needs in their life.

For SHORT TERM relief I would suggest using some phenibut, it will help ease the anxiety and also help you sleep. Phenibut physically addictive in itself so I would just use it to get through the next few days, then you should be home and clear.

Good luck :)

MONSTA!!

Hi Monsta!!,

Thanks for your advice, I will look in to Phenibut. Do you know enough about it to be telling me dosages etc.? Not sure if this forum allows you to suggest places to buy in UK, I notice it's legal though.

Thanks

They don't allow sourcing here kodex. Etizolam withdrawal is very real, and taken in the amounts and duration with which you have been taking it, it is very likely you are feeling the withdrawal. For me quitting cold turkey the symptoms lasted roughly five to six days.

It is good that you are seeing a doctor about this. I don't think taking phenibut is necessary since by the time you get it withdrawal should be over. I don't know much about it to be honest but that it is physically addictive and probably not in your best interest.

Tell your doctor how you are feeling and explain to him how your anxiety has been. If anxiety is that debilitating for you then medication may be a step in the right direction. There are other more natural options as well such as meditation, exercise, creative outlets, and coping methods. Only go for the medicine as a last resort. Being dependent on xanax is no fun, and as big of a ball and chain as any.

Ok, nevermind about the sourcing then.

Is it wise mentioning to doctor about self-medicating? I am thinking not? But rather just telling her how bad the anxiety is. I understand that medication is not always the best option but I'm in desperate need of a quick solution before working on a more longer-term plan such as therapy.

If you hope to get a prescription for benzodiazepines then definitely do not mention the fact that you have been self-medicating. It is probably best to just be completely honest with your doctor, but if I were you I would not. IME I have not because I know if I did then I would not be prescribed the proper medication that I know works best for me.

I can't sleep either. Some doctors don't like to prescribe benzodiazepines, instead they give you samples of Seroquel, for instance.

Although it's not a benzo, it will make you sleep and keep you drowsy for up to 14 hours. It's horrible if you have to work next day.

^ I was prescribed seroquel at one point in my life. 100 milligrams every night and let me tell you, you took that and it was impossible not to fall asleep twenty minutes later. Anti psychotics basically turn you into a zombie at least in my experience...the next day always had me in the worst of moods. Took me a long time to realize it was the seroquel causing me to feel like hell.

Definitely cannot be prescribed benzo's, hence why I am trying to come off them. They will be flagged up in the drug test.

Well not saying you should get a prescription for benzos or that it would be in your best interest as I do not have any way of knowing your true situation in its entirety, but if you had a prescription then that would make having benzos in your system completely fine, in theory.

Not entirely sure - think it constitutes as possibly affecting your work where safety is important - level of alertness etc. in engineering/oil industries.

Stay the hell away from phenibut unless you posses an extreme ability of self control. I thought I did. Now I'm six months into a habit and trying to taper off. It's hell. You're definitely going through etizolam withdrawal if you took it every day for that amount of time though. I wish you the best if luck.

Possibly a silly question, but moving to phenibut while going through etizolam withdrawals for a week or two, then just stopping the phenibut, is that it all over? Or is your body still dependant on something? - will there still be some withdrawals?

Better just locking yourself away for a week?

Joey, I can do anything in moderation, not an addictive personality at all, just didn't realise what I was doing was wrong. Things like diazepam I know you aren't to do too much off, I hadn't really considered etizolam to be in the same league.

Phenibut can cause withdrawals after 3 days. A week or two of use is almost guaranteed to.
Maybe try some kava? It won't cure it, but itll take the edge off. Look into l-theanine too. Both of these will not cause dependence.

Realistically you should be fine for 4-5 days on phenibut @ 2g per day however YMMV. Good luck getting off the benzos I've been through a full blown benzodiazepine withdrawal many years ago, ended up in hospital after having a seizure at work. It's really not something I'd wish on anyone, however you end up doing it you will be much better off the benzos.

Been prescribed Citalopram, which I have to say makes me feel a bit uneasy after taking, not quite sure how to describe it other than some sort of stimulant like modafinil. I've already ordered Phenibut but i guess i can just keep it for emergencies then, or if there are any off days while on citalopram.

Seems I'll have to wait several months for a referral to speak to someone about the anxiety and the sleep etc.
