Before you do anything really dumb, in the interest of harm reduction, I'll give you some info. If you are going to use this method to obtain ether (which I don't recomend) here are a few pointers:
1.) Do it in a well ventelated area. Ether (and starter fluid) have a tendency to evaporate into a nice flamable gas. I'd hate to see a news story tomorrow about some kid who blew up his house because he was huffing in his bedroom, then flipped on the light and blew his to ass pieces.
2.) In the same vein as the previous warning, don't even think about lighting a candle or smoking a cigarette until well after your little experiment is over.
3.) If you soak a rag in the ether, and then use that to huff it, dispose of it in the same way you would a rag soaked in gasoline... namely, in a metal trash can well away from any source of spark or flame.
4.) Try to find a more detailed "recipee" than the one you posted above. Don't post it to this thread, but follow the directions step by step. If you find a recipee without any safety precautions in it toss it out and keep looking.
