Entheogens

The above is technically true although I think the word has connotations that prevent it from being attributed to a lot of more recent, synthetic psychedelics. That is, anyone can use any psychedelic as an entheogen, but I don't think something like 2c-i would be considered an "entheogen" by consensus.

Whereas a lot of psychedelics with really longstanding entheogenic use are typically regarded as entheogens even if one doesn't use them in such a manner. (I'm thinking chemicals like Mescaline and DMT that have had centuries of use ritualistically)

I completely disagree...

2c-i is definately what is to be considered entheogen - personally 2c-i taught me that "i am you", which is a very basic revelation of entheogenic use of psychedelics.

recent and synthetic have nothing to do with entheogenic properties, 5ht2a agonism has! 2c-e would be an even better example for such a recent synthetic compound that no doubt is considered an entheogen by those with experience in this field...

entheogens are what you make of them, just like reality... some people can take huge doses of lsd and not have entheogenic experiences, while others reach nirvana/++++/god/flyingspaghettimonster with 5mg 2c-i or a hit of weed... that doesn't make lsd any less of an entheogen, it just shows how ignorant people can be in regard to the divine call :)

entheogen is a linguistic concept that stands in opposition to hallucinogen and is used to refer to the same class of substances, it just points to a different interpretation of the experiences that are brought on by these substances...

that was the point I was trying to make... that by consensus (aka, a bunch of peoples subjective experiences) a drug that is generally used as recreationally and non spiritually as 2c-i, especially given its recentness (which gives it a much less entheogenic/spiritual context for a lot of its users) and its lack of historical use in such a way by many people, don't lead it to be considered one of the common "entheogens"

I agree that any 5HT2a agonist can be used as an entheogen. I'm just saying 2c-i isn't a drug that would first come to your mind when invoking the term. something like mescaline is FAR more likely to come to your mind.
 
personally, of all of the psychedelics i have tried, I would call most or all of them entheogens. lsa, shrooms, 2c-e, 2c-i, 2c-t-7, lsd.

while some people may dismiss 2c-i as 'dirty', i believe it is every bit a potent mescaline-friend as any compound. my friend had a life-changing entheogenic experience on his first and only phen-trip with 2C-I (22mg). granted, he was deep into reading about mescalito at the time, so it's all about set and setting :)
