Enteric coated 5-HTP?

I just picked up a bottle of 5-HTP yesterday but failed to notice that they were enteric coated pills and not the usual gel caps.

I looked it up and it says they're coated in enteric to stop absorption in the stomach and to allow the pill to be absorbed in the small intestine.

Why would they do this? Is 5-HTP absorbed better in the intestines? Is there any benefit to the enteric coating?

Possibly it's to reduce side effects some people may experience when taking it if it irritates their stomachs... not sure if 5-HTP is absorbed better in the small intestine and I couldn't find anything with a quick search.

In another thread, someone said you need to take green tea extract with 5HTP to keep it from turning into 5HT in the stomach (which is where most serotonin is, I believe). So maybe the coating prevents that?

"8. Green Tea extracts (EGCG)
Description: Another MUST GET supplement, VERY POWERFUL antioxidant, 200x more than Vitamin E. COMT Inhibitor which is one of the many enzymes responsible for the breakdown of MDMA. It is also a Decarboxylase inhibitor so it potentiates 5-htp and l-dopa

Dosage: Take with 5-htp so that 5-htp gets converted to serotonin in the brain and not in your gut, also before MDMA usage for potentiation and powerful antioxidant activity. Dose: 300mg of 40% EGCG extract"
