I am also grateful that English is my native language, as compared to French and German, which I studied for three and two years respectively, English is very irregular. It is only a young language, perhaps about 400 years old and derived from German, Latin and a few other languages I can't recall.
One thing I could never fathom was how the German word for anus, which is "after" entered into that particular context in the English language.
