“Embrace”
for Tina.

As I stood facing the forest, my mind
Longed for something familiar
To aid me on my journey. No tree, nor
Stone had I seen before, yet I
Pushed forward into uninviting black.
I treaded with care, and using
Arms to feel for obstructions, plunged in.

Suddenly I felt blood flowing between
My fingers; warm against bare skin.
Thorns had pierced the flesh, as if to issue
Me a warning: “Why continue?
Can’t you see this isn’t a place for you?”

Tasting iron and despair, I sucked the blood
From my hand, and glanced longingly
Toward the direction that I came from.

Now, enveloped by the black, neither path
Seemed welcoming. Completely
Alone, my body quivered with doubt as I,
Against all reason, continued
On my true course into the unknown.

Upon making this decision, my eyes
Detected a faint light. I approached
The glowing apprehensively;
I was overcome by a need to speak.

Before I could utter a single sound,
A lighted figure placed a soft
Finger to my lips and calmed my heart.
The figure spoke, with a voice so
Familiar and pacifying and said,
“You no longer have to make this journey alone.”

The precious hand of the figure took mine,
And the light shone brighter than before.
The path, while still uncertain, no longer
Seemed treacherous. The feeling of
Fear left my body, and hope took firm grasp

Poetry isn't exactly my style. :

I found this very wholehearted, and truthful in its messages. The imagery is potent - I could visualise every step of the journey. :)
