Elon Musk officially buys Twitter, DONE DEAL !

Yeah I just read all of your replies on Twitter back to late 2023 so far, but you are poking fun at me about what the "Left" is, lol

it's about winning,
There it is. and, always has been (well, for years). And, yes, I see it from both sides now (still moreso on the right, but ne'mind). But... "They started it, mom!". And that really is hard to argue.

Like I say, I can never remember if I'm a whiny, ineffectual, snowflake or an evil Machiavelli. The very labels used to paint the left over the last years are telling.

Pretty funny he turned twitter into an accurate representation of the real political balance/ratio of the nation, and we're supposed to believe twitter is worth half of what he paid? It wasn't a financial investment

yeah, i think he really did.

i mean people say there's a bit of madness in genius, or something like that but he's gone totally insane.

alasdair

he turned twitter into a pro-trump echo chamber
Wrong. If almost all of your posts are replies to pro-trump accounts (yours are) then the algorithm will show you more posts/accounts like that, but in reality it's actually more politically balanced than it was before Elon Musk bought it

It's crazy to me that 70% of US Adults use facebook. I wonder whether my wife's facebook, which is technically active but was last used over a year ago when I purchased a bike off of marketplace, would have been counted here. I haven't had an account since 2016, and have never been a twitter user.

Interesting to see that Reddit does in fact have more of a liberal bias, something that I've seen claimed in discussions, while also catering to a higher amount of college graduates than other platforms. Twitter seems to be built around the individual poster as a brand, whereas Reddit is ultimately more collaborative. I wonder if that speaks to individualist vs. collectivist mindsets.

Forums, like this, seem to be the only place to get a mixture of both, and the ability to share ideas back and forth across ideological lines. It's what I appreciate most about this place.

Good question. I assume that I still have a FB account, but I rarely ever used it and I haven't looked at it at all in 3 or 4 years.

I used Twitter briefly a few years back, but got sick of it very quickly. I don't think I ever had a TikTok account. I might glance at Reddit or Quora once or twice a month.

Life's too short.

I was listening to a professor being interviewed yesterday and they were discussing AI generated content that was spreading fake information about the wildfires. It lead into a discussion about AI manipulation of social media in general and the researcher very bluntly says: "If you're on social media, get off of it." Just point blank on a national radio show. I appreciated that sentiment.

Me too.

I've read that a sizable chunk of people (& a majority of those under 30) get "most or all" of their news from X or TikTok.

No wonder everybody's angry all the time and tribalism is worse than ever. People literally exist in different realities, all dictated by algorithms.

Remember when the 'information superhighway' was going to allow for democratization of society. Eternal September is fucking lame.
