Recently, I downloaded some live sets off the net and found a bunch of songs ive never heard before, but one won't leave my mind.

Do any of you guys know of songs that make you feel sad and optimistic at the same time? or make you think?

Mine would be Paulo Mojo & Jim Rivers - Ron Hardy said (Eric Prydz remix)

Underworld - Rez - nothing else (either before or since) sounds anything like it. I don't think i'll ever get bored of it. I think i want it played at my funeral - if nothing else, it will make everyone go 'what the fuck is this?', and that's good enough for me :)

DJ Virgen - Eyes of Innocence

this one's fucking emotional. I totally can't decide whether it's unbelievably sad or heroically inspirational. I guess it's kind of both! also, it is SO not the kind of music I am into these day, btu I just dusted off some of the old classic trance records for a little jam and had an AWESOME time playing them.

awesome thread btw.

man, there are so many.

so, you know how apparently you only use something like 10% of your brain? There are certain minimal tracks that kind of make me feel like I'm using parts of my brain that I can't really access otherwise.

e.g.

Trentmoller - Chameleon

Gaiser - Half Life

I find I used to get this feeling at parties with good minimal djs all the time before I started spinning myself. it was like there was something in my brain that didn't really know how to process the music before I really started getting into it. It kind of makes me wonder if I actually was using parts of my brain that had never really used before, since I rarely get the feeling now that I have a pretty deep understanding of what goes into making good minimal (also, I don't do anywhere near that amount of drugs I used to, so that might have a little to do with it too 8)).

it's kind of too bad actually, because it was a really cool feeling. I really find that in general, the more I learn about electronic music, the less I tend to like it when I go out. sure, there is something to be said for being picky, but I miss the days when I could go out and listen to an oompa loompa banging on an oil drum for 12 hours and have the best night of my life.

saw underworld this new years lost my shit when they played rez! such an awesome track

I saw Underworld on New Year's Day in Melbourne this year. Was the best gig I have ever been to! I NEED to see them again ASAP. I actually prefer their live version of Rez, as that acid lead line sounds even better when its sped up a bit (as it is when they play it live). The same goes for Cowgirl.

QFT. Untrue is such an amazing album!!!

Trentemoller - Take Me into Your Skin
Underworld - To Heal
Pryda - The Gift

Also, any track on Renaissance: The Masters Series - James Zabiela - CD One - Down

Venetian Snares - Frictional Nevada

Such a beautiful song. It starts off with a deceptively mellow intro before beating you over the head with a mindfucking mix of chaos and melody. Probably one of my favorite songs of all time.

alot of music can make a person think.....depends on the situation or drug of choice. Almost all music can make a person think and think deeply....from old skool hip hop krs-1 to some killer thievery corp political trax.....to some fun house record by mark farina or another electro DJ.

lol, the music you write yourself makes you think? you're probably a really cool guy.

hmm, well, yeah it does. ask any musician and if theyre being honest they'll probably tell you that they are a fan of their own music. It came from you, it must AT LEAST make you think a bit if not more.

other stuff that makes me think (just for you Br3@D or B@g3l or whatever you're called):

Rage Against the Machine, Blur, Radiohead, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Dream Theater, UK, Pink Floyd, Tool, Kansas, Fantomas, Perfect Circle, Probot, Mr. Bungle, NIN, King's X, Frozen Rabbit, Foo Fighters, Apocalyptica, Incubus, Tubular Bells, Opeth, Alice in Chains, King Crimson, Tomahawk, Shpongle, Yes, Tom Green, Adam Sandler, Rush, Soundgarden, Faith No More, Zappa, Coil, Gentle Giant, Ozzy, Joe Satriani, Queensryche, Liquid Tension Experiment, Lacuna Coil, Porcupine Tree, Dillinger Escape Plan, Kyuss, Enigma, Muse, Hendrix, tenacious D, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Ministry, Phil Western, Skinny Puppy, among others

I'm a fan of my own music. I just don't shamelessly plug it on messageboards by pretending to be an anonymous fan of it.
