Ehrlich test changed colors over time

had purchased an Ehrlich reagent test over the summer when I was rather hot, reaching temps as high as 100°. Originally when i got it , the liquid inside was a very very light shade of green .I went to use it the other day, and the liquid inside the dropper is a very dark shade of green. I tested a piece of paper and even with the green liquid covering the white paper, I could still see a purple hue thru the green.

Is it still use able to identify indoles and L? And has this happened to anyone else before?
Plus I do not store it in a fridge, because I share the fridge area with my family, I think this may be the reason for the change of color.

Usually reagents are made of (a cocktail of) relatively reactive chemicals since by definition they are meant to react with one or several sorts of chems in order to produce those color reactions. This also kinda means they are not so stable and that is the reason for having to keep them in the fridge and them generally not having an uber long shelf life.

Marquis really shouldn't be used when it starts to go dark and fresh reagent has to be made or bought... with Ehrlich's, hmm maybe it's less bad since the purple or no purple reaction is more straightforward and I do not believe it would give a false positive purple if you just test pure paper (which you can try as experiment to see the difference between known LSD and known non-LSD: pure paper).

If there is not enough stable reagent left in your Ehrlich's to identify the LSD or when the green gets so dark that you cannot see purple through it, obviously it is of no more use. If you can get a noticeable reaction, IMO it's usable but just bad practice. If you can't tell anymore whether there perhaps is purple that you're missing, that is different from seeing purple and wondering if it's "spontaneous" purple from being bad reagent rather than LSD. Again I don't think it can spontaneously turn purple.

Clocktower, I was actually doing that right after my post today! Hah do u know if it is supposed to be clear? I can't really find a good picture of the liquid
