I know that bupropion is both a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, as well as a nicotinic receptor antagonist. I have a basic understanding of the neurochemistry behind this, and why bupropion is effective as a smoking cessation medication , but I was wondering, would being on bupropion make a tobacco high subjectively better, or worse? (since its a nicotinic ANTagonist, but at the same time a dopamine uptake inhibitor.)

I did a quick search and couldnt find much on the subject.

If anyone know the answer, and could maybe explain it chemically for me, Im pretty sure I can understand. Thanks for any help, Im new, but Ive been reading around for a bit without an account.

Id like some info on this drug as well as its supposed to be very good at helping you stop those horrid nicotine sticks,Willpower as well dont forget guys/girls..

personally when i was on buproprion (for depression mind you) it killed the high that cigarettes gave me, i wasnt able to get any buzz off of them. However, it didnt stop the craving for cigarettes.

Sorry, got no science behind this, just my experience.

That's most likely the case. Also, it's worth adding, that nicotine's dopaminergic effects are almost entirely mediated through downstream effects it has, which cause more dopamine to be released.

I smoked cigarettes for a few months. When I started, I was taking 150 mg bupropion/day. When I increased the bupropion to 300 mg/day, I still had the urge to smoke cigarettes, even though the "feeling" of smoking was mostly eliminated. Feeling crappy and out of breath for its own sake wasn't worth it, but it still took me a couple attempts before I stopped smoking for good (stressful time...).

Pretty much what daysonatrain said.

It makes smoking less rewarding but then again i was only smoking while drinking (something else you arent supposed to do on the drug).

The DRI effect only kicks in at the very highest doses (300mg+) so dont expect much.

Thanks for the relpies guys. I hadnt tried it until today (I didnt have the chance) and I can say the tobacco high was slightly diminished (I hit it out of a water pipe) but nothing special.
