I heard it makes a damn good Opium substitute, but i bought the seeds in the "grow your own herbs" section of lowes. The seed pack says it for anxiety....it also said this about cat nip though, so im slightly woried that its gonna be nothing more then a corny cat nip buzz....anyone know if a strong buzz can be achieved off California Poppy?

well its not an opium poppy.. so you cant get opium from it.

California poppy does contain alkaloids, however none of those alkaloids include morphine or codeine. But that doesn't mean it doesn't have seative qualitites of it's own. It may provide some relaxation, but it won't provide an opium-like high.
