The battle to legalize medical marijuana in Florida has been contentious. Both sides have raised millions of dollars. The ‘No on 2′ campaign, which opposes medical marijuana, has used some shady campaign tactics to try to scare voters into voting ‘no’ on Election Day. For instance, anti-medical marijuana supporters in Florida have suggested that marijuana leads to gay sex and AIDS. That’s despicable, even for politics.

The ‘No on 2′ campaign has rolled out a new tactic which is something right out of the Reefer Madness movie. The ‘No on 2′ campaign released an image suggesting that if medical marijuana is legalized, then marijuana cookies will become the new date rape drug of choice by predators. Below is the image

I wish I was making this stuff up, but unfortunately, I’m not. Never mind that patients are suffering in Florida. Never mind that medical marijuana can help many of these people, and reduce their dependency on harmful pharmaceuticals. Instead of focusing on the facts and the science, the ‘No on 2′ campaign is relying on outright scare tactics in an attempt to trick voters into thinking that medical marijuana will lead to date rape. To say I’m disgusted is a huge understatement.

The new tactic, and every tactic for that matter, used by the ‘No on 2′ campaign is a disgrace, and highlights just how desperate they are. Almost half of the United States has already legalized medical marijuana, yet I have never heard of a ‘cookie date rape epidemic’ happening anywhere. This campaign strategy is wrong, offensive, and should not be tolerated. Vote yes on 2!

Edible marijuana would make a terrible "date rape drug", good god. It would be like using LSD as a date rape drug or something.

I'd assume that a good date rape drug would have the characteristic of making someone's mental state foggy and more pliable, not soaring into freak out land on a orally-ingested rocket of THC
 
At first their bs was getting annoying and now it is just disgusting. They know we are going to win the vote in November so they are grasping at straws spreading a wave of reefer madness propaganda in a pathetic attempt to brainwash people over to their side.
 
Yes. Girls who want to avoid getting raped should stick to harmless LEGAL drugs. Like alcohol *nods*
 
Here in Aus there was a huge "date rape" controversy many years ago - centred around the supposed use of GHB/GBL for raping women. One of the peak drug authorities conducted a comprehensive review of reported cases and found that the only drug that could explain the symptoms of the vast majority of reported cases was alcohol. Funny that...
 
^yea I remember reading something like that lol. Alcohol IS the date rape drug.

But its good to know that edibles can be used as a date rape drug, BC I was looking for a new substance to add to the arsenal hah...what a load of shit
 
This is some disgustingly stupid propaganda, the upside is, it is so fucking laughably transparent and will likely only detract from their agenda. You would have to be a pretty stupid person to believe this was a feasible way to date rape anybody, cannabis (especially when taken orally) has more of a tendency to make someone slightly anxious/paranoid/distrustful where GABAergic drugs like alcohol and benzodiazepines have the opposite effect, it is easy to see which of the two mindstates would be easier to coerce someone into performing activities they otherwise would not.

Furthermore, cannabis does not have any where near the same level of impairment when it comes to memory loss, sure you might forget what you are saying half way through a sentence when you are super baked, but you don't wake up the next day with no recollection of the prior nights events. Amnesia causing drugs, again like alcohol and other GABAergic drugs serve a much more logical function as a date rape drug than cannabis ever could.

Onset time is also a major factor, orally consumed cannabis would generally take an hour or more to kick it, and probably another hour before it reached peak effects, this is a large window for the drugged person to figure out something doesn't add up. Conversely, strong concentrations of alcohol, potent benzodiazepines and GHB tend to kick in relatively fast and hard, in many of these cases I would be willing to bet that the victim did not realise they may have been dosed until the resultant intoxication was too overwhelming for them to remove themselves from the current situation.

Using the psychoactive constituents of cannabis sativa as a date rape drug would be about as effective as resorting to methamphetamine in order to sleep, or opioid analgesics in order to treat erectile dysfunction.

To whom it may concern (in Florida): Don't let the stigma, propaganda, and biased "facts" surrounding a mind altering substance (marijuana) - which carries far less risks than ethanol (alcoholic beverages) - to influence your views and opinions on the matter. Many of these prohibitionists involved in pro-drug war efforts have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo, as they stand to lose a lot of money if drug laws were to change.

Many of these prohibitionists are directly associated with the following organizations (among others):
- organized crime (yes, that's right, the crooks are spending millions of dollars in order to stall or stop drug reform)
- police unions
- tobacco giants
- beer and alcohol companies
- prison unions
- the private prison industry (they have admitted that without the war on drugs, business wouldn't be booming)
- Fox News and other right wing media

Please take the time to do some independent research on this controversial topic, and do not allow these parasites to cloud your judgement.

I say prohibit all alcohol & see what happens.......
 
I take this as a good sign, this is the only argument they have left? Anybody with any knowledge whatsoever of marijuana(which is a pretty high number nowadays) will have a good laugh at this and further understand that politics is nothing but a silly game of lies and deception fueled by greed and desire of a very false sense of power, instead of focusing on the actual topics at hand. I think "Yes on 2" has already won :)
 
Can't it just be called rape and not date rape, surely most incidences of "date rape" happen by strangers in bars/clubs etc. very little actual dating involved .... shouldn't we have all sorts scenario based rape nomenclature. "alcohol rape" is the first that comes to mind.
