eddie maguire herold sun PRO DRUG decriminalisation article!

^100 million users in the USA seems really high, that's 1 in 3 people. Or are you talking all of america?

I thought the rate of people who had used mdma in the USA to be around 5%, but I guess it's a hard thing to properly measure.

I thought it was high too which is why I remembered it. But I can't seem to find anything to back that up now (vaguely rember it being in an escstasy doco).
The DEA website thinks about 5 million ppl used MDMA in 2001. But how many throughout the entire population life is unknown.

I swear I remember hearing my figure though, if I ever see it I'll definitely link to it.

Has anyone here ever been asked about their drug use? Personally I always answer "no" as I have nothing to gain from identifying as a drug user. I'd take any research with a grain of salt.

I participate in annual ongoing studies Re: Methamphetamine and ecstasy use.

They also ask about effectively every other recreational drug but not in as great detail. The researchers are pretty up to date, even questions regarding RC's that have only really taken off in the past couple years.

I feel everyone should contribute where possible, were not getting decriminalisation if we dont acknowledge our population uses drugs to the extent it does. Honesty is the way to go, unless your speaking to your GP of course :|

I'm glad that this idea is getting attention in Aus finally, but I wish the article wouldn't spread blatant bullshit about ecstacy being cut with glass - I've heard that one from my idiot friends and it pisses me right off. I always nod politely and agree, but fuck if that isn't one of the stupidest myths I've ever heard.

And the second pro-reform article in two days appears on The Age with: "War on drugs has been a failure: Carr"

Looks like it may be back on the agenda again soon. I remember when there was "serious" talk about decriminalising marijuana back when I was in high school, and being young and optimistic (and stoned), I thought that it was a sure thing...

"there's, like, no way anyone can, like, disagree with this man.. it just makes too much <cough, cough, spit> sense not to happen. I mean, practically every person in Australia supports it, I mean everyone I know does, like..."

That was 15 years ago.

I'm not saying that it's a completely hopeless cause, but I've learned some patience - and a fair bit of weary contempt - for these processes.

Sensible changes can happen, but one mustn't hold one's breath (particularly if you were/are a heavy weed smoker, because that can be a real effort, what with the reduced lung capacity and all).

OK, I should go to sleep

I had to smile at this too. If it was that much of a rush users would rack up a line, slice the end of their finger with a razor and simply wipe it across the line.

Thats not very convenient you have so many fingers .

I find it easier to carry a pouch of crushed glass so if i want a more of a rush I simply have a line/mouthfull before hand.

As as been mentioned, he had me agreeing with him and impressed until he pulled the old rat/glass myth out.

That said, I don't think I've ever seen a more ironic/PR piece written. When he says at the end "I don't even know if I agree with this column" he's not wrong. He doesn't hate drugs. ;)
