15 to Yes to the government cracking down on drug use promoting webpages
869 saying No.
Anyone get the moral of this story??

I think the reason tester kits are legal to sell, but illegal to use, is the same reason bongs can be sold, but not used (for cannabis smoking). An item is considered a "utensil used in the administration of a dangerous drug" if you intend to use it, or have used it in the administration of a dangerous drug. Shops can sell testers because they don't intend to use it themselves to test ecstasy, they only intend to sell it. I think thats the logic the law goes by. However, if police were to find a bag of pills next to a tester, I wouldn't be surprised if they try to charge someone with possession of a utensil (for the tester). It could probably be beaten in court, but I think its a matter of time before it happens.

The Australian Drug Foundation today warned many of the sites were deliberately aimed at young people and glorified ecstasy use.
...
"They are usually run by older people who are out to manipulate young people, knowing they are big users of the Internet"
The ADF actually said that? The aim of sites such as this and pillreports is to manipulate young people? For what end? For laughs?

That MX poll is truly amusing. The question probably should be "Should the government crack down on websites discussing illegal drug use?" I still answered "yes" to "promoting drug use", as far as saying what effects they have and if I find them enjoyable.

"They are usually run by older people who are out to manipulate young people, knowing they are big users of the Internet."
MY GOD, where do they pull this from.. These sites are for one basic reason. Harm minimisation. They are not some evil cult here to influence the youth of today into taking drugs. What fanstasy world are they living in?
Yes, we all know the can be inaccurate, and COULD be used by "dealers" to push so called "bad" batches. But if they actually took the time to follow the reports database for a while, they would discover that people can pick the "dodgy" reports from a mile away.. You quickly get to know the names to trust, and you can also get some idea on the valaditity of the report from the replies it gets from people. But in know way is pill reports a replacement for a pill tester. It is, though, *a* way to at least try and help the less smart/responsible of us out there who don't buy testers.
I just heard a funny thing on *you better believe it*, Beauty and the beast. They were going on about rec. drug use and all agreed that a boyfriend had know right to tell his girlfriend to stop taking on occasion, rec drugs. As this would be interfering with her choices. The funny thing i saw in this, was that its not ok for this person who is close to the girl to tell her to stop, cos thats interfering with her choices, but its ok for the government to tells us what we can and can't do to enjoy ourselves..
Sheesh..
And please. Enough with the stupid rumours about what is or isn't in pills. Do some dam research. Or present me with some actual test figures from some pills that show these "additives". Also if you call GHB a hallucinagen, you should do the same with alcohol. Ive hallucinated many more times on alchohol, thinking some chick was hot, than i have ever on GHB :)

what a suprise...
Anne Learmonth has never heard of pillreports.com, Bluelight or enlighten. I explained the fundamental reasons why nothing she said applied to our site, and also said I had had a fucking gutful of being compared to paedophiles. She claims she was talking about other sites. When I asked for their addresses she said she'd have to get back to me. Of course she blamed the paper for taking her comments and putting them next to excerpts from our site. It was never her intention, she claims, to slander us.
We had a fairly long and consructive chat about pilltesting, etc, and hopefully more dialogue can occur. We swapped email addreses, and I will be sending thru plenty of material to educate her...
The reporter from MX hasn't returned my call, but I may have missed her, as she knocks off at 1pm.

Courier Mail does it again. They almost printed an article today that contained no glaringly stupid statements until they got to the last paragraph. quote "The centre also received reports of a so called "Super Marijuana" a mix of cannabis, phencyclidine and EMBALMING FLUID making its debut on the Queensland market"
*shakes head*

If I wrote an article structured like that for my Professional Writing tutor, he'd probably shoot me!
The content is also inconsistent and contradictory.
If this guy can become a journalist, then I'll be the next fuckin Kerry Packer! ;)
F...

It's an interesting point that Johnboy made about someone else having partial control over articles prior to printing. I've actually met this kid (i'm good mates with his brother) and he's a good kid and a good young reporter and I've no doubt re his story regarding to biased editing.
Joel, make sure you come through and write up something to show the other side of the argument.

heh, that's not quite the point i was making. more like that sub editors, and ultimately editors, have complete control over how an article ends up. thy can compltely rewrite a story, at their discretion.
but yeah, onya Joel, don't let the bastards get you down. ;)
oh and "The centre also received reports of a so called "Super Marijuana" a mix of cannabis, phencyclidine and EMBALMING FLUID making its debut on the Queensland market"? that's true. do a search in the american forums and you will see the americans have been doing that for years...

^^^^
Yes but embalming fluid is street name for PCP, I think, and I don't think the paper meant their average reader to know that.

incredibly fucking angry right now. just got off the phone to the MX reporter. she didn't contact us because she didnt have time to, because she only had 30 minutes to finish the story.
yes that's right, they spent 30 minutes on this important issue. they couldn't wait the couple of hours it would have taken for an email to be sent so they just rang one person, Anne Learmonth, and re-type the Courier Mail Article.
i might write more later but i'm still too furious. I don't feel that good about reducing a minor journo to tears, but she had it coming.

jb, lurve the message on the front page... NICE ONE!!..
30mins on front page... I bet you the back "glamour" section gets more then that!!!

anger isn't the way to get things done. i didnt want to get angry, i didn't expect to, but i was provoked. i purposfully didn't call anyone else while i was so angry. me, i can wait more than 30 minutes before i need to do something ;)

Yes loved the new message, i wonder if any of them will actually listen and do any research and actually ever print or write a story that reflects the truth. Highly doubtful.
Oh well i am sure jb made them feel extremely stupid, which is good, coz that is what they are :)
