Ecstasy linked to loss of memory

"In one experiment, a primate was given four doses of Ecstasy in four days. Six years later, when the primate died, the autopsy showed that it still had damage to its nerve cells."

-doses, people... that's why you don't take ecstasy every day. your body needs about 2 weeks to replenish itself before going at it again. not 24 hours.

-lol. besides, if you were trapped in a cage and being experimented on by a bunch of primates you didn't understand and had no clue what the fuck each day was going to bring you, your nerves would be damaged too.

wow an article of this calibur had to come from OHIO

We know that Ecstasy kills nerve cells, and we're not sure what all that means; but we have a concern that 10 to 20 years from now there will be some major damage to memory," Koesters said.
this has yet to be proven

"In every study, all the animals have had some damage from Ecstasy," Koesters said. "In one experiment, a primate was given four doses of Ecstasy in four days. Six years later, when the primate died, the autopsy showed that it still had damage to its nerve cells."

propaghanda! the monkeys were INJECTED IV with mdma at doses as high as ~300mg with later supplimental doses. only one of them died, the rest suffered severe brain damage.

"Simply telling a student 'no,' doesn't hurt, but it doesn't always work. But if you truly make an effort to teach people, to let them know the effects - that it definitely damages brain cells - people will at least take note of it," Koesters said.

we also dont want them to know that any of this damage we THINK happens can easily be prevented

Ecstasy was created in the 1950's
try the 1910's, fuckhead

A Schedule I drug has a hallucinogenic property -- no medical use.

yah i love tripping out on my heroin

now let me think ... if i got hammered every weekend on alcohol would i feel tired and depressed during the week .. would i have trouble concerntrating .. would i even remember wot i did on the weekend .. would i even care? if you stay up all weekend watching dumbass dvd's you'll be tired and depressed all week. it's called moderation and harm minimisation you dickwipe (referring to the report author .. not posters)

wanna know the coolest thing about E? it's its inherent self-regulatory nature ... u take too much too often and hey, it stops being fun. if u take alcohol or most other drugs too much too often and it will totally fuck you up or kill you. hmmm .. now how do you get the most out of taking E recreationally? take it in moderation, get lots of rest, eat healthily and keep a fit and healthy body. geeze, just imagine if a marketing company was actually allowed to promote E given all this. ppl have been doing E's recreationally for well over 30 years. why aren't all the psycho wards now full of these 'early' users?

I came across the thedea.org site a few weeks ago, after trying E and becoming a huge fan a few months ago. When I came across the standard "neurotoxic" crap I was concerned about my usage. As I read every single page on thedea's website I was absolutely disgusted in what I read - and to be honest, not surprised in the slightest. I have a good understanding of chemistry and what I initially read in the mainstream sites just didn't add up. What I read on thedea confirmed it.

I applaud thedea, for helping uphold the virtue that science is without political opinion - it is based on fact. From Australia, we salute you.

As for the rest of the posters, excellent contributions from you all. Make sure you take a look at thedea.org if you haven't already and be sure to enlighten those around you who have been fed this misinformation.

Even if MDMA causes nerve damage/kills brain cells, taking a knock on the head also does. The human central nervous system has an amazing ability to cope with different forms of damage and I think we underestimate this ability. This is purely opinion as I have no background in neurologly.

The most amazing example of this that I know is an experement with rats. A 5mm section of spinal cord was removed, paralysing its back legs. An operation was then performed, inserting wool like scaffolding laced with stem cells. This reconected the spinal column.

Here's the interesting bit. It was thought that the rat would not be able to regain full motor skills as the per the analogy of the telephone cable. The nerves would grow branching the gap in the spinal cord but the joins would also be random. However the brain of the rat recognised this and made adjustments so that the rat could actually walk again (however there were still problems in one leg).

I know this is different to the situation being described but it is just to illustrate.

Cuddles :)

Anyone with some knowledge of neurology who wants to shoot me down in flames, feel free.

i dont always like tests that are done. or trust them. but theres like 15 lately all pointing to the same thing as well as numerous ppl here who'd say their memories shot forever. but u can look at it like memory down 10% amazing experiences up 30 different occasions etc. thats sorta cool. but then u cant keep going if u wanna b a normal functioning adult.

ohio.....

ok. my thoughts = dont believe anything that has maybe in front of it.

Mr. Wood picked this apart rather nicely, so i will leave it at that.

thanks and peace!
