The trees in Cambodia are not the only source of safrole containing sassafras oil. Sassafras albidum has a wide distribution through the American South East through the eastern seaboard and midwest to Ontorio. It is used to make file a spice widely used in cajun cooking and used to be used as a flavoring for root beer. Supposedly the yield of safrole by steam distilation isn't enough to make it cost effective or practical. A safrole containing brazilian plant, on the other hand has safrole in high yields. And the oil once obtained from the plant constituent is like 90% safrole which means it is of sufficient purity to be used as a precursor without distilation (to differentiate from steam distillation of the bark they are talking about. Who knows, maybe Colombia will add MDMA as an export in addition to the heroin, coke, and small loads of cannabis. But I don't think they ( the cartels, paramilitary organizations, and other DTOs that control the drug trade) are smart enough to see the potential- inspite of their material resources and level of sophistication @ the core they are unimaginative dumbfucks in my opinion.8)
