I just wanted to start a thread about this. I got some really strong pills and am pretty certain i almost died from overheating.

what do you guys do to cool down.

i use a wet towel or cloth or splash water on your face and rest. there were so many times i went clubbing i didnt realize how dangerous the overheating was. especially cause you cant over drink water if i remember correctly.

Air conditioning
Don't move/dance as much
Drink really cold water with ice cube

Over drinking and "drowning" yourself so to speak is pretty hard to do. You should drink a bottle or glass of water each hour is the general rule. I would imagine the people that drink too much water and die are preoccupied with not overheating that they do this instead. As long as you drink water often you'll be fine.

kind of worry about this too.. im going to ibiza this year, not sure how hot it can get in the clubs overthere.. .we dont have that problem where I live, since most partys are in places with ari conditioning and not very packed of ppl... When I go to Buenos Aires, thats infukingsane, it doesnt only get hot in most clubs, it gets INFERNO hot...

your pills might have PMA in them wich causes you to heat up. me or no one i know has a over heating problem with just MDMA

MDMA alone will not make you overheat!

If however you use in a hot club then you need to take regular breaks and stay hydrated - a bottle of water an hour is fine though and theres no need to over do it as too much water is just as bad as not enough.

IF Im feeling really hot then I would run my wrists under a cold tap for a few minutes - I would splash cold water on my face, head, back of my neck to cool down. Best way to look at this is - Why am I hot? Answer the question and remove yourself from the source of heat!

Most of the clubs have Uber air conditioning units fitted - ice cannons, snow machines huge fans are pretty normal.

In fact if your at Space (Cafe Ole - Wednesday night (free entry if you go to the gay section first [40€ otherwise] then you actually aim to avoid the ice cannons as they hurt!

^^thanks dude!!

hows that about the gay section (im not gay, but im not avid to pay 40 euros just to show im not gay lol)

A neat trick my brother learned in the military is to dampen a cloth (or shirt or w/e) with luke-warm water (maybe a little on the cooler side) and just drape it on the back of your neck.

I was busting tires with him one day and I got heat stroke. He did this to me and I was literally feeling 1000% better in less than 10 minutes.

MDMA, alone, can make you overheat.
It is rare, but very dangerous.

The serotonin system controls the immune system.
This includes spiking fevers.
When serotonin is concerned, any fever over 101 is considered extreme.
At 104, risk of death goes up dramatically.

Death is quite rare, but higher temperatures have been proven to increase damage to the serotonin nerves. This is not so rare.

The best way to avoid fever is to lower your dose and avoid re-dosing.
It can be difficult to detect a low-grade fever while on MDMA, but if you do, aggressive cooling techniques are called for.

This means ice water should be applied to the face, head, and neck repeatedly.
Remove clothing and find a cool environment.
In hospital settings, the above measures are taken along with cold IV saline.

Do NOT drink large amounts of water, especially if experiencing a fever.
Those experiencing fever are at a higher risk for hyponatremia, which is an imbalance of water/electrolytes in the bloodstream. This can lead to swelling around the brain.

The best solution is the slow intake of electrolytes, like gatorade.
Over-consumption of salt is NOT recommended, as it can cause a massive infarction in the brainstem.

Again, this is a rare condition. Most people never get a fever on MDMA.
However, extreme reactions and fever can occur days after use.
Any fever, during of after MDMA use, should be treated aggressively.

If you read through ALL of my posts, you would find others resembling this one in 'harm-reduction' content.

Not everything I post is so long-winded and 'argumentative'.
Some of what you perceive about me is really just your perception.

But thanks for showing me that you too, have another side.
For a change...

Not true. MDMA alone will not make you overheat. Other factors such as the temperature of the environment combined with the MDMA can increase the risk of overheating (though extremely rare). Just keep to a bottle of water an hour as a general rule and you will be more than fine. As FBC said, don't drink TOO much water, as that is just as harmful as drinking too little water.

Yes, it is true, regardless of whether or not you want it to be.
Again, rare - but true.

Of course, ambient temperature AND dancing can increase this risk.
Regardless of dancing, people that suffer severe symptoms from MDMA often experience fever as well.

I actually rolled today and became pretty concerned after redosing. I felt sooo hot and it was a really hot day in the 90's.

When I felt my neck it felt like I was burning up and I kept splashing water in my face until eventually me and my friend hopped into a cold shower. It was the first time I've experienced this. I was really worried and I wasn't sure if I was in danger or experiencing anxiety. Anyway, the shower really did seem to help and all went along smoothly after that.

Of course MDMA alone will raise your temperature, I can't believe people on bluelight are saying otherwise.

Whether that temperature raise will harm you usually relies on environmental factors(but not always).

Yes, MDMA, by itself, will raise your body temperature, period. But if you take precautions it shouldn't be dangerous.

Seriously, I can't believe people are so ignorant and deny the side effects, be real with yourself so you know how to be safer people!!!!

If you have access to ice, a really good way to cool down your body temperature is to put cold packs or ice cubes on your carotid (on the left or right side of your adams apple). Other areas, like bearlove mentioned would be icing the wrists, underarms, or crotch (i know this may be uncomfortable but the femoral artery will carry cool blood throughout the rest of your body).

Studies show that MDMA dose not significantly raise body temperature: "Liechti et al also measured some of the test subjects for blood pressure, heart rate, and body temperature against a placebo control. The increases were noticeable, but not dangerous and not statistically significant for many of the readings (this means that the changes they measured were not certain to be an effect of the drug instead of random chance)." http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/mdma/mdma_effects3.shtml

In most users, the change in core temperature is minor - probably a degree or two.
The surface temperature of the skin probably goes up a little higher.

I experienced this many times while rolling and it was never uncomfortable.
I can see how some people would deny ANY rise in temp from MDMA, because the rise that occurs is PLEASANT.
But make no mistake - it rises.

When it gets to 101.4 it is considered medically significant, especially if other signs of serotonin toxicity are present.
This is a sign that the hypothalamus, which controls homeostasis (inc. the thermostat control), is compromised.
Any SS at 101.4 degrees is treated aggressively.
We are talking ICE baths or at least cold wet rags being applied repeatedly.
And cold IV saline.

At 104 organ damage, esp. liver, is likely.
Above this, death or brain damage is very likely.

Controlling body temperature IF IT ESCALATES is very very important.
It is the primary supportive care offered when MDMA users show up in the ER.
Slow introduction of saline helps to remove excess water from the bloodstream.
Beyond this, a serotonin antagonist like Cyproheptadine is given to shut off serotonin activity.
The only other treatment is a benzo, to control muscle spasms, and isolating the patient in a dark quiet room.

Yes, MDMA raises body temp - normally modestly.
When it isn't modest - it is VERY bad.

Some quick tips:

* Trying occasionally leaving the dancefloor to cool down
* Always have a bottle of water on you, if you're thirsty
* Keep splashing water on yourself to keep cool
