Hey all. Im new here this is my first post so be gentle =D

I know that MDMA can cause people to have depleted serotonin levels which is why some people abstain from the drug for about a week or longer. (Suicide Tuesday and such). I was wondering though why meth doesnt have that sort of effect on its users. They are both somewhat similar in the way that they both trigger the releases of the same neurotransmitters . Does this mean that MDMA simply has a much stronger effect on your brain that meth? Is meth a lot weaker? Btw i dont use meth but i do use ecstasy and i love it <3

It's true that the two release the same neurotransmitters, but they differ in the ratios that they release. MDMA is highly serotonergic; while it releases dopamine and norepinephrine, it doesn't release nearly as much as meth. Honestly, it'd probably be best if people who did meth didn't do it more than once a week, but the drug reacts well to redosing (dopamine receptors are more robust than serotonin receptors), so people tend to have worse habits with it. :\

Well, I've never taken meth, but here is what I can tell you. Methamphetamine is NOT weaker than MDMA. Quite the contrary, it is a significantly stronger and more lethal substance. For starters, methamphetamine affects the dopamine system a lot more than MDMA, and also lasts much longer in duration. A single dose of meth can last 10-12 hours, whereas MDMA is usually in the 5-6 range. Meth's stimulant properties are much more than that of MDMA, while there is not the psychedelic property. I think the biggest difference is withdrawal; MDMA "withdrawal" makes you want to take a break and return to normal, whereas meth induces cravings and leaves the user desiring more of the drug. In a nutshell, meth creates more of a physical dependency than MDMA.

I'd have to say my comedown from the first and only time I've done meth was far worse than any mdma comedown I've had. When coming down from mdma, like someone said, I'm just ready to be normal again. The time I did meth, my train of thought was fixated on "I should have bought more" and "I should have done less so I had more throughout the night." My body was physically sick for days after, and I physically craved meth again. Since that time, I refuse to do meth ever again. Not because I didn't like it, but because I liked it so much I'd do it if it was in front of me.
Sorry for the ramble lol. Typing this from my phone so I can't go back and proofread well lol.
