OK.

What kind of job are you going for at the moment and where have you worked in the past?

I was a baker at Sainsbury's for a year, but can't put it on my CV because they won't give a reference (walked out after they wouldn't let me have weekend off to attend a memorial cricket game for one of my team mates, even after I'd spent the previous month doing loads of over time for them)

Girlfriend's mum employed me in her pub for a few months so I could get some bar work experience to put on my CV and add an extra reference

Currently, during the festival season I work in this tea garden thing which won the Best Stall award at Womad this year.. basically a posh cafe, selling tea and scones and home made cakes. But this is just a cash-in-hand job which ties me over

I'm now looking for some local bar work, hopefully a few shifts in a few local places to do 40-50 hours a week. Or call centre work if its £7.50 or more an hour

Just put the Sansburies job on the CV anyway, they probably won't check. And I'm sure it's illegal for companies to refuse to give a reference, I think they have to by law if asked. There not likely to be bothered about you walking out enough to give you a bad reference anyway, I don't think it's the done thing.

Call centre work is easy eDDe if you're not selling. One where the customer calls you for help is probably ideal but market research is pretty simple as well, more people are interested than you think.

I was on £7.50 an hour but that was after being there for a while. Started around £6.50 an hour. Why would you only do if it starts at £7.50 I doubt barwork will pay as well as that either.

They're not allowed to give you a bad reference, but they are allowed to refuse to give one.. which is basically saying you weren't reliable or shit or whatever

I think £7.50 an hour is worth the soul draining of it.
Hopefully I'll be working for Oxfam in a call centre, it won't be cold calling, just following up people who have signed up. Pays £8 an hour

Wouldn't mind nightshift work in a call centre for 118 118 or something, think the pay is quite steep

Of course they can give you a bad reference, if it's true. Don't talk shit.
Unless they're cunts or you deliberately burnt the place down or something, then they just won't.

Call centre work is not that bad really. Spose it depends what your doing and who you're calling.

Apparently O2 call centres are quite good to work in and pays well.

^ Lmao

Guess you'd have to meet targets to justify the £8.. not that its a great sum of money

In other news, my mum's contract at Bath Spa uni has been extended for another year which relieves some financial worries. They're cunts who're replacing all the staff with people who have a broader, A' level type, of knowledge so they can have less staff to pay

Didn't mean to knock the amount of money, just trying to tone down any justifying that may need doing. If that makes sense.

Basically, I'll be happy on £6 p/h

Had an interview yesterday morning. Easiest ever (no tough questions, just talked through my CV). Indicates either I'm so good that they don't want to ask questions, or I'm so far behind everyone else that they're not going to hire me anyway ;). Was internal, with quite a few applicants, which is probably a negative - everyone who does my job is capable of doing the one I applied for (it's basically the same work, but sole charge and then picking up some supervisory work). So it's really 1 in 10 or so that I get it.

The interviewer thinks I come from a beautiful country though, so that's a start ;)

But the good thing was that it forced my current boss to ensure that my position becomes permanent - so even if I lose out on the promotion, I still have a job at the end :)

Good luck to felix and carsick and others :)

Awww... that's really good news, Simon.

Must be a relief.
