No you aren't -but you're drifting perilously close to the shores of Lecture Island imo :)

Just because it's you

Bollocks.

You all pick on me. :p

Another day another lecture about getting work, signing on, blah blah blah.

So that's where you get your lecturing ability from! ;)

Get your degree and you'll be earning min 30K as a banker, lawyer, accountant etc when you start.

Trainees at my firm start on 35k, goes up to about 55-60 when they're actually qualified. But that's unusually high.

(Unfortunately, none of that applies to me: get teh degree I've got and you'll earn oh so much less than a plumber, bricklayer, Aldi manager, street sweeper, etc).

But I got an interview tomorrow. Basically doing what I do now but with the word 'senior' in front of it and the word 'permanent' on the contract. Which is nice.

Heh, it may not be exact.. but the Mandarins do have a pretty decent job. Also, all the MPs I've spoken too say it is pretty much the same lol

I suspect taht the civil servants wouldn't ;)

Having worked in that environment (tho not in the UK) I can say that it's a good place to work, that you do have the power of influence, but that really the MPs are in charge. Any good one will be paying close attention to what you do, and will be over-ruling you. Sure, a lot of time the department will be writing out recommendations and just advising the Minister to sign them, but if anything important comes up, the competent ones will be on top of it.

heh. he phoned at 1125 and it ended a minute ago.

that went really well actually! he was a really nice guy, quite laid back and funny. (i'm not convinced he was german, actually ;))

the good thing is that i am fucking *made* for this job. everything i've done in the past 18 years makes my experience a perfect fit for it, so i didn't need to lie or exaggerate about anything. i should hear back within the next 10 days. the next step, if i'm successful, will be a face to face interview in aberdeen. he will be flying over to do them himself.
woo hoo! =D

that must've went well, cos i've got a proper interview on thursday. i'm quite pumped about this job now. %)

cheers. :)

too right. just imagine, in a month's time i could be our african correspondent. the job will be starting in gabon. 8o

Sounds pretty good. If you have to go in a month, i'd be checking to see if your jabs are up to date.

(Although maybe not, if you think it might jinx your application!)

good luck!

nah, the company would take care of all that stuff. i've never had any jabs for travelling before! 8o

OK I was thinking you'ld been to Cambodia etc but it was just Thailand you went to on your 'world tour' wasn't it?

So where did you go again? Sydney I remember but where else...

If you're calling it a world tour can I say I went on a world tour this summer as well? I did visit 3 continents after all.

I need to get a job soon. Thing is god knows what kind of job I'm going to get / go for. I have no idea what I want to do really that relates to my degree. I wish I hadn't done an honours degree in Disney Studies now. :\

Out of the 3 other class mates who did the same degree as me, one is unemployed still, one doing office agency work and the other working for the travel lodge as a meeting room co-ordinator which apparently is her dream job and the reason she did the degree in the first place. If that's the best she can dream her life must be miserable as it just involves setting up a meeting room for people at the hotel and dealing with invoices according to her. Is this the sort of thing I have to look forward to? :(

I want to do something I enjoy and a bit more interesting than any of that shit. I'd ideally like to start an event of some sort my own but lack of funding will put a stop to that. I can't think what else in the event area that I'd enjoy. Guess I'll need to find out what's available in Edinburgh first which I can do this week.

I'd really like to work in the travel industry somehow, in some sort of job that allowed me some free trips abroad. Any suggestions? No suggestions of air hostess though please Felix. ;)

My mates mums got this great wee job on the side working for an online travel company in her spare time (as well as having a full time job) where she sells holidays to friends and family and instead of getting paid commision / wages which she'd be taxed on she just gets holidays from the company to the amount of commision she's earned. Abroad 5 times a year. Lucky bitch! :)
