they get respect are you sure about that ?
seriously i haven't got a problem with them personally they not exactly anything really though. Especially after a Rakim 16 it just seems strange lol!
Each to their own i suppose

They are some the best rhymers in the UK with a cool style but they don't get much attention in the UK compared to others. They get accused of trying to be American they do have an American style I guess they lived there for a good few years. I think they're good though pity the Dipset thing never took off. They are about the only rappers from here that Americans like
I know Rakim invented lyricism and all that and is considered the God emcee but I just can't get into his music personally. Kool G Rap and BDK are better to listen to.

They are a straight up Dipset rip-off. UK Dipset. Same style of everything. They got big when they both moved to New York - "met Ghostface first week we was out here". I was into them for a bit, when I was heavy into Dipset, because they just sounded like a UK Dipset. Wouldn't listen to them now though, other than for a laugh. They're not UK hip hop, they're US, Diplomats style hip hop, done by 2 English guys.

As far as I know they were (& possibly still are, I didn't know they were even still about, thought they'd disappeared years ago) not respected whatsoever in the UK. UK rappers would have been dead against their wannabe American style. That style is the only reason they were slightly known, because a US audience could like them, whereas if you chucked Jehst into New York your average wee dafty would think he was shite because of the accent/style when he's actually a fucking beast.

yeh thats a big track. thats true about jay but the man did have some talent.

last lot Ive managed to go see was this, year and a bit ago, was a great night

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fS_Q2l7YEU

missed souls of mischief a few weeks ago for partying on a boat, but heard they were shit so not too pissed about it, though if it was hiero would have made sure to see it anyway

When did you first buy a Hip Hop record n what was it ?

Mine was Kool G Rap "It's a Demo" on imported Cold Chillin Vinly in 1987 b4 they were signed to warner bros .

You may have noticed i am a bit stuck in the Old school of Hip Hop that' scos i grew up with it .
I also had this album , i even bought a fishermans hat . EPMD - The Big Payback (HD)

hmm, I'm still a young'un really (22 at the moment) so think first I grabbed was dre's 2001 cd as a kid...so nothin classic, but i spend most of my listening now on late 80s early 90s releases, just grabs my attention more than most else and suits my tastes

As a person J is a cunt left behind the hood n the folk that helped him in the early days like that prick 50 cent

Disagree totally. You seen what Dre was doing before NWA? Jay jumped on that one Jaz-O track Hawaiian Sophie (I think it was called).

Left behind the hood? As he says in a different way, can't be fucked looking for the tune right now "We were selling crack on street corners, now people think I owe them something because I made it?" Should the guy who gets a degree & a decent job start hooking up all his old ghetto crack dealer "mates" with money, just because he's made it out the hood? Why is it different when he's a rapper? He's right as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure his actual friends, (eg Bleek) were sorted out, but the other people who just happened to also punt crack or live in Marcy? Why do they deserve shit?

Apparently Jaz-O wouldn't sign a contract, which is why he got fucked out of dough but he made it out as though Jay-Z just done him. The Dame Dash shit I'm not so sure about but Dame Dash was/is a massive cunt anyway, so if Jay did fuck him over (quite likely) then I don't care, the guy's a fucking arsehole.

You've got to respect Jay-Z, not just for the classics that he's put out, but also for going from selling £10er bits of crack to being well on the way to a billion in the bank.
