EADD Gardening Club: Ploughing FUBAR's infertile Fields

Nice garden Busty, liking the big spiky plants :)

Stick some fruit trees in kate!

There's brambles there but they're very overgrown.

Think I'm going to have to start by clearing it all first before taking on any projects.

Herbs oh yes herbs - I already have a basic culinary collection and am tempted to start a little patch of curious herbs - /poisonous/deleriants/medicinal stuff - god knows why I'm sure the whim will pass quickly enough

Stick to catnip :D

I've just discover garden porn %)

^Get some poppies growing, Kate. Mine are just starting to sprout. C'mon ye buggers!. :D

i have just discovered/remembered how much i hate strimming. :|

but we have made great progress in the past few weeks. lots of weedkiller down and we've nearly finished clearing them out by hand and tidying up the paths and patio (that's almost become an obsession with me recently). my mum was down visiting over the weekend and identified nearly all of the trees and bushes:-

trees

rowan, holly, beech, laburnum, cherry, mock orange, cherry blossom, and about 20 maple or sycamore up one side

bushes

cotoneaster, rhododendrum, jasmine, camellia, broom, hebe, senecio, fuschia, hydrangea, cypress, berberus.

and i've just finished the first lawnmowing of the year. the entire garden is 1000m2 front + rear so i hope i don't have to do that too often. 8o

i've always wanted a garden, but really didn't think i would get into working on it so much. :)

kate has also planted up a few big pots with some stuff... don't ask me what though.

some photos later.

Nice one. I fookin' love cherry blossom. Probably my favourite tree actually. :)

How are the poppies coming along Tribal? I've sown some with a wild seed mix, haven't a clue if they'll come to anything...

This butterfly appeared, the first I've seen in the garden :)

Reckon we have a couple of underground bee nests as there's loads of big fat fluffy fuckers zooming around :D

I've ordered this - going to make panels for the inside of it and get some fairy lights installed :D

i have a nice garden with some sunny out of the way places for growing nice greenery, also have oranges, grapes, lemons, apples , pears and olives. have been intending to set up a proper veggie garden as well, which would make sense as i dont like mowing the lawns (and im vegan and like my seasonal veggies!)
got a nice big palm tree (15ft or so) with geraniums growing out of it which is quite nice, had to get rid of another bigger one earlier in the year because it was dying and in danger of falling through the lounge roof

hey felix, thats an impressive looking post count you have there! will see what i can come up with for pictures....winter coming on now so the garden isnt looking its best/ at least thats the excuse im using in my defense of its current state of neglect :)

Well I got the hexagonal gazebo, it's up and it's huge 8o Now in the process of decorating inside it to make it kinda Bedouin-Moroccany party tent stylee :D

Just as well no one can see inside the garden, between that and the Tibetan prayer flags, it's beginning to look eh colourful!

Quite pleased with the progress of my baby flowers n' plants, the pots especially are coming along nicely - though watering the fuckers every evening is a bit :|

Nasturtiums as expected, are growing like weeds. Nae sign of the poppies....yet

need loads of colourful cushions and a suitably large hookah for moroccany evenings in said gazebo I feel.

^
Haha indeed! I'm also draping the insides with fabric and have plans for low level seating with said cushions for rolling (about etc ;))

Using aubergine, greens, wee bit pink, browns for colour scheme - yeh cannae have enough "green" though! :)

Nice colour theme. Inside fabrics should be all sheeny and possibly two tone or have gold patterning on etc, I have spoken! haha

You need to transform it into a Moroccan style den, Kate. ;)

Argh, one batch of them died off unfortunately. Still got a couple of pots doing OK atm though, so fingers crossed. :)

Ock they be fragile beings the poppies :| have noticed this, especially since I have mine outdoors. Lots of rain last night brought new green into being and I think we have some poppy germination fragilely making it's way into life - so me too fingering a crossed =D

man that sounds rude :o

It really is worth using compost with those water-retaining granules in it for your containers, Kate, or have Felix rig up an automatic irrigation system - sure he's got little else to do with his time ;)

Look forward to pics of work in progress :)

Filled the Fishface Memorial Pools last night for a ceremonial switching on of the pump at the weekend, only to discover there's a leak :!:\

Woo so lovely to hear from you Mr Fish <3 So that explains the bag of "watergel" thingies brought in with the list of eh "plant food" (true story folks :|) compost, citronella etc etc...:D

Noted! Thank you :) Though have to say all this gardening and watering is quite good keep-fit!

Ock a leak, that's typical 8) the garden fairies so like to play ;) Fingers crossed that the Fishface Memorial Pool flows easy and with good vibrant fluidity %)

Working on the pics.

those words were ringing in my ear this afternoon while i was in B&Q, so i decided the former option was worth investigating. thanks for the tip, fishy, i'd never heard of these things before. :)

i wonder what would happen if you put them in the cat's water bowl?

Glad to be of assistance :)

Well, after the water level stabilised in the pond, I marked the level and refilled it only to find that it appears not to be leaking any more 8) :\

Those garden fairies had better watch their step :|
