EADD Gardening Club: Ploughing FUBAR's infertile Fields

Look forward to a progress report :)

And speaking of such, here are a couple of views of our courtyard:

Looking good! It's my life's dream to one day have a garden like that, hopefully attached to a suitably quaint cottage.

Took a snap of our garden in a break in the showers. Grass always looks a bit sad after a cut, oh well.

Was in the garden the other day and saw a pretty little butterfly flitting about. It was like white, except for the very tips of its wings, which were either red or bright orange. Anyone any ideas what it might be?

Hey hey, was looking for this thread a couple of weeks ago! Can't remember what I wanted to post though, I guess just chilli updates and maybe some question or other. Hazelnut tree is looking good at the mo, am thinking of planting a cherry tree. That'd be so cool. Chillies are in full working order (they fucking burnnnn :D) though not quite ready I don't think. Maybe move em back inside now it's gone cold.

Not sure cherries would do that well up here, but would be very cool.
My giant lilies have died down now, they smelt so good whilst they lasted.

Ah the joys of summer are nearly gone. Anyway I thought I'd look up this thread & report that my potatoes are blighted :( & my lettuce patch is full of weeds (and lettuce)
Aye, I gave up on our taters a couple of weeks back, along with the tomatos :(

Aww - cheers, mate :)

Shame certain shennanigans prevented you'n'yours enjoying it with us - before too long, we hope, and trust all's well <3

Top notch garden, Mr Fishy. Looks very summery and lovely :)

We have a patch of grass around the block I live on. Not allowed to grow stuff on it though. Would try some guerrilla gardening but the council lawnmowers would just chomp it :\

Got some more herbs on the go though - the mint smells lovely :)

Gardens of 2010

Bump :)

I wanted a "real" garden, soon I'll have one, quite a large one too! There's trees round 2 sides, mature shrubs, bit jungly, then lawns and border beds - all looking a bit neglected. Not sure how to get started :\ Just the thought of identifying what's in it is making me all 8(

Will I weed first? Any useful info / linkies will be greatly appreciated <3

my garden will be looking quite nice this summer ive spent alot of time on it. im also starting a new job in a plant nursery in two weeks so ill be able to get basically any plant i want cheap. the people that work there really no there shit as well so ill be able to get advice from them.

i really enjoy gardening actually for some reason, ecspecially when i start seeing my hard work pay off

hah, i wondered who bumped this!

yeah, at last i'm also going to have a driveway, garage, and OUTSIDE TAP!

we've also got brambles right at the back. yum.

buying a gazebo is high on the priority list for the garden - anyone got any recommendations? i'd also like a 'chiminea' for burning things and outside heating. that would be cool. %)

Yeah, you need to weed first. Depends on what you're growing as to where to start. You need to know where you get the most sunlight what areas get very little then plan out your beds according to light and season. You may have to wait until next year for certain flowers as April tends to be the last month for planting many summer bloomers.

Thanks :) Yes, I need to know about the sun and soil type too hmm.

Then weed, weed and weed! I might just have to buy baby bedding plants. I'd like some poppies :D

Are you going to do a veg garden? Pumpkins grow well in the hearty climate. Good for soups etc. We're growing some just now but they're only seedlings.

I don't think I have enough time for a veg garden at the moment :( alas. Maybe some herbs.

I live in Topsy Turvy Land where summer is way too hot to plant anything in my vegie patch. I usually have to wait until late Feb before I even think about planting. For the past month we have had late afternoon rains that help eliminate too many of my plants being burnt to death.

I have had a few Bok Choy, chinese cabbage and broccoli seedlings in the ground for four weeks and they are almost ready to harvest. My little lemon tree is also bulging and it might be time for Sunday afternoon Carona's.

This tomatoe plant started growing in an empty pot and I decided to keep it. It must have seeded from the compost I added.

I planted the rest of my garden with mostly succulents as we had been in drought for the last 3-4 years. The grass is green thanks to installing a 5000L rainwater tank (paid for by the government thank you very much).

I have yet to raid my neighbours banana tree that hangs over my fence ;)

The joy of gardening around here. I'm told they are harmless but I have seen photo's of orb spiders eating small birds so I don't feel ashamed that I scream like a little girl and flay my arms like a looney whenever I walk into their web at night. This is the smallest one of 4 living in my front archway.

Ah the joys of digging in damp soil howking out the thick mat of buttercup that I allowed to form through gross negligence the previous autumn is a good horticultural karmic lesson - take note idlers.
I hate potato blight and am persuaded that fungicides applied in excess quantities more frequently than the recommended intervals is the way forward!

Herbs oh yes herbs - I already have a basic culinary collection and am tempted to start a little patch of curious herbs - /poisonous/deleriants/medicinal stuff - god knows why I'm sure the whim will pass quickly enough
