I hope this is the right place for this (because it's something not well researched).

I have a nice e-cig and I'm wondering how much nicotine I'm taking in. It seems like a lot. I'm using 12 mg liquid...if I puff the vape like 5 times in an hour, am I taking in more nicotine than if I smoked a cig once or twice an hour?

I have never used e-cig, but suddenly I found this article, I hope it's helpful:

Smoking machine studies suggest that a single e-cigarette puff yields less nicotine than a single cigarette puff, yet only one study directly compared yields between e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes using the same methods.
It's not directly answer to you question but more than the nothing.

It depends on a lot of factors, but it sounds like you're probably using less nicotine.

Nicotine isn't really anything to worry about compared to all the other nasties in cigarettes that you're not getting with an e-cig. If you stick with the e-cig & stop smoking cigarettes you should notice you're breathing easier in a couple of weeks.

I found it much easier to quit the e-cig than cigarettes too.

It is possible you are taking in more nicotine through an e-cig. When you consider all the stuff all major cigarette companies do to their tobacco to increase potency, bio-availability, and make it hit harder/have a stronger rush it seems entirely plausible that one would have to increase the dose in order to get similar effects/feeling. At least it would seem so to me, just my guess though.

I would suggest going down in the nicotine. I started at 24 mg and I don't even know how. I assumed I needed that much because I smoked a pack a day but it was overkill. 12 mg is still a lot for me. I use either 6 or 3 but I prefer 3. Plenty of nicotine. If you have a fancy battery and tank that gives you a lot of smoke 12 mg would be a ton of nicotine. They have a place where I live that sells 36 mg, that's disgusting. One hit would make me sick.

I usually mix 12mg and 8mg together

I'm on the e-cig, and could care less how much nicotine I'm ingesting. I was a pack a day guy for 25 years. In my opinion, the ecig is 1000 times safer than conventional darts.

In terms of harmful effects, nicotine ranks around the same as caffeine, with little evidence to indicate it is carcinogenic.

That's pretty much how I feel: even if it had cyanide in it, it would be better.

But smoking is just sooo good

That the reason why I get the 24MG bottles. Rather than sitting somewhere and taking 10-15 drags, I can 5-7 puffs and feel satisfied rather than 15-20. It's much more beneficial for me at work as well. I can use the restroom (and if no one's in there) I'll take my average of 6 puffs, and be done right when I'm done using the Urinal. Plus - then I don't have to waste any of my break time with a smoke break. Rather an ecig/restroom trip that takes all of 3 minutes.

Source this. This is totally false. Something doesn't need to be carcinogenic to have harmful effects.

Nicotine is a nerve agent and over time disrupts the signals to the smooth muscles surrounding the Aorta, arteries, etc...causing them to lose their blood pressure regulating function and to be more prone to arteriosclerosis.

Preliminary biochemical studies suggest nicotine is dangerous
Studies done at Brown University go to the heart of the matter — nicotine’s effect on cardiac tissue. Experts know that smoking cigarettes increases your risk for heart disease and that nicotine is the likely culprit. Vascular tissue exposed to nicotine shows damage. Nicotine literally bores holes through smooth muscle walls and leaves debris in its wake.

The preliminary research shows how damage from nicotine can lead to atherosclerosis, or a buildup of plaque in the arteries. Whenever there is damage to tissue, inflammation and plaque buildup can follow.

I will go further to say, that a few animal studies have been conducted here recently further demonstrating the negative side effects of nicotine on smooth muscle.

I am of the opinion that if the dose is kept lower or equal to that consumed through cigs then the switch to an e-cig is a great, healthy idea.
