Hi,
I got some time and Oxycontin OCs (we still got them as EU board of drugs hasn't yet discontinued their license) to spare and I decided to try making some oxycodone E-Cig juice to vape. I'll open up the vaporizer concept for those nor familiar in it and especially the temperature control method which is important part of minimizing health issues.
Main concept of this can be varied for plenty of substances if one wants to do some research about the qualities of the substance in issue. It just has to be a substance that can be inhaled quite safely without the risk of overdose and goes easily to bloodstream from lungs or otherwise one might even kill himself or just waste the substance.
I don't suggest that anyone should do this but I decided that I should give out this info because there are people who want to try getting a rush out of oxycodone without plugging or IV'ing and they either insufflate or even smoke the pill which is very dangerous due the binders, fillers and the time release method that pills contain.
I would like to add that the safest method of administration of oxycodone pills is to either eat them or putting them (as a water based solution) to the other end of digestive tract than the one you are inserting them by eating.
Both of these methods are also nigh the same as IV'ing since the oral bioavailability is pretty much 90% if taken correctly (in terms of recreational use and therefore on empty stomach with some bacon or other greasy stuff) and anal is somewhat the same (without the bacon of course as it would be gross).
Anyway I'll get into the point soon after I line out some basic concepts of vaping for those who are not familiar with it and also expand the topic to temparature controlled mods with suitable atomizers.
Vaping an E-cig is a method of originally delivering nicotine into one's system without the other hazardous chemicals that normal cigarettes put out while smoking them but still having the same kind of vapour experience as with the real deal.
Well current mid-end E-Cigs have capacity of putting out a seriously bigger clouds than normal cigarettes could and this gives an oppurtunity of trying to vape something not meant to be vaped from E-Cigs such as THC from various forms or Cannabis (Indica/Sativa) or as in this case, the notorious painkiller drug oxycodone, which is a DOC for many americans.
This is due the fact that as the first e-cigs had less than ten Watts of power and those could just vape the e-juice (and some couldn't achieve even that) but newest mods (the "battery" with some neat electronics) can give out even 200 Watts of sustained power and newest atomizers with right coils can stand that much of power which leads to a fact that those can be used to vape pretty much anything which is even somewhat soluble to the base liquid and stands the temperature needed to vaporize to the base PG/VG (Propylene Glycol or Vegetable Glycerin or the mix of the both in various strengths) liquid.
In many cases the stuff to be vaped doesn't even have to be soluble at all to the base liquid as the vaporized base liquid can "embrace and carry" the chemical to be delivered to your lungs with it. I am not a rocket scientist (well actually one of my hobbies is amateur rocketry
) so I don't know the exact term for this but it is due the fact that as even if the chemical is in solid phase instead of liquid phase in the base liquid it can rise up to one's lungs with the vaporized base liquid if the size (and the form in some borderline cases) of that chemical is right. Some real scientist could and should give the proper term of that phenomenon for me as I just visualize that thing in my mind from the prior knowledge of how those awfully small things called atoms behave and my empirical experiments support that thesis which leads to a conclusion that it just works...
Currently those intelligent Mods that power E-Cig Atomizers nearly all have Temperature Sensing and Temperature Control functions and they even work now (the first ones had quite a lot of lag or didn't even work as they claimed to work).
The idea of temperature control is to make E-Cigs even less harmfull to one's health than they were before. This due the fact that burning of the E-juice (the base liquid with flavours and with or without nicotine) or Wicking material (the stuff used to transfer E-juice from the tank to the Coil(s) or simply contain the E-Juice in case of a Dripping Atomizer. Material used to be Silica thread or RSST but the current trend is Cotton and especially Organic Cotton from Japan, which is IMHO superior to other materials) and even heating the Coils to a point they start to emit the material they are made of is pretty harmfull for one's health as the stuff one gets in his lungs due this is either carcinogenic, toxic or simply put - BAD - as you can get even nickel to your lungs if you happen to use variable wattage or voltage mode of the mod being used instead of using temperature control mode.
Coils are just simple metal wire tied into a coil which heats up when electric flow goes through it and the wicking material is inserted in the coil and to the Tank of the atomizer or it functions also as a small reservoir of E-Juice in case of Dripping Atomizers which, as the name implies, are fed by dripping E-Juice directly to the wicking material and coils directly by the user of such device.
Traditional material in use is Kanthal wire and it is because that resistance of Kanthal wire used in the coils varies only a little when it heats up and therefore regulated mods won't have to crank up the voltage when the coils is heated and unregulated mods (aka. Mechanical Mods) can give out quite sustained amount of power as in those the only things that affect the amount of power fed into the coil are the resistance of the coil and the voltage of the battery along with any voltage drops due the contact points (which is due the Ohms Law and it is not a tv legal or crime serie, but a mathematical equation that describes how Current (Amperes), Voltage (Volts) and Resistance (Ohms) relates to each other).
However Kanthal is not an ideal material to be used with Temperature Control function since, as the sharpest pens reading this might have guessed already, the resistance of Kanthal doesn't vary much in relation to the temperature of it as described above. The mod has to sense the temperature of the coil before it can control the temperature and this is done by measuring the initial resistance of the coil before "firing" (letting electric current flow through the coil aka. closing the circuit aka. "turning it on") and either assuming that the coil's temperature is same as normal room temperature (20 Celsius degrees) or measuring it from a separate sensor as well as it has to know the temperature coefficient of resistance curve of the material used in the coil.
Therefore as the Kanthal's temperature coefficient of resistance curve is not steep enough because the resistance of it does not vary much in relation to temperature it is too hard for the mod to sense the temperature of the coil accurately. Nickel's resistance however varies quite more than Kanthal's resistance in relation to the temperature therefore leading to steeper curve and because of this it is an quite an ideal material to be used in temperature controlled coils as it is easy to measure the temperature accurately.
Nickel has an drawback however and it is the usual nickel related issue and by that I mean allergy to nickel residues. It is possible that nickel is leaked out from the coil to a E-Juice if the pH value of the E-Juice is on the acidic side of the indicator. Also it is possible to use nickel coils in other than Temperature Controlled mode which may result in a dry coil and excessive heating of the coil which breaks particles of Nickel out of the coil and into the lungs of user.
This is where the Titanium coils come in as a material it is not related into any allergy or health problems and is widely in use of medical field with hip and knee implants etc. and thus is considered to be safer option but not all of the older mods can handle them atleast without firmware update. Newer mods can handle them and have capability to adapt to use even materials which there are no coils made yet as you can upload new resistance curves in them.
Anyways lets get into the point at last. I have an Smok Xcube II which gives out 180 Watts of sustained power after a newest Firmware Update (out of the box was 160 Watts) and can handle Nickel and Titanium coils in Temperature Control mode and has some features which may seem odd such as Bluetooth connection so you can control your mod by smartphone and a led firing indicator bar for which you can choose color from the smarthphone or set it to a disco mode
This device is suitable for powering up an atomizer which suits for the task in hand which of course is delivering various chemicals to your lungs. I have been using Smok's Taste Furious V4 for this as it is imho quite an E-Juice guzzler for a normal daily vaping for which I use Freemax Starre Pro instead. Titanium Coils of course for the Taste Furious for this use.
For the Drippers I have found Fishbone V2 to have all the necessary features such as glass top to see what is happening in the coils as well as good airflow and easy to use posts to position selfmade coils. Especially the ability to see how the liquid behaves with different temperature or wattage levels is important in this kind of use as you can verify if it smokes or vapes.
For the Oxycontin OCs I used a simple method of soaking the pills for about 24 hours in a bit more of water than the oxycodone is soluble for after I took the colour layer off with a piece of plastic. Then I took the pills out of the water and put the water in four times the amount of menthol E-Juice without nicotine, stirred it and heated gently until all water had evaporated.
This method can be used quite widely for many other pills too but you need to use different liquid than water if the drug is not water soluble. Take in note that some pills might crumble and need to be strained with suitable filter.
Also take in note that other pills may contain other ingredients that can be soluble in the liquid medium used and most likely they won't be healthy for your lungs.
There are also plenty of recipes that can be found by google for different herbs including cannabis that can be used in E-Juice.
Remember to use E-Juice without nicotine if you haven't been using it before as it might cause some side-effects.
Using vaporizer instead of directly smoking pills or herbs gets rid of most health issues related to burning of binders, fillers etc. and is very stealthy when compared to for example using foil to smoke oxycodone or water bong for smoking cannabis. It doesn't even smell at all like cannabis when vaped as the detectable smells are the flavours used in E-Juice used.
So how were these things in my opinion? Well I have had Oxanest IV'd to myself in hospital setting se I know atleast something to compare this although I don't IV anything myself and wouldn't allow anyone to inject anything from pills. I must say that the rush came on fast as for the first time I tried this method I had vaped only three big puffs from my Fishbone dripper atomizer until it hit me which was "only" roughly 15 to 20mg worth of Oxycodone. I decided to use much weaker solution for the second time as the first batch was too strong to be used in a Tank Atomizer. Imho 230degrees celsius was quite a good temperature setting for it.
Lasted about the same as insufflation, but when compared for intensity per mg it was more closer to taking it oral or rectal.
