First off, I'm not talking recreational doses of DXM, simply therapeutic ones (for the hope of tolerance maintenance for Subutex so tapering isn't as bad/my little mood lift doesn't wear off as soon as it normally would ~30-40mg) about 5-6 times a week.

Are there any extra problems that would arise from this if you're smoking cigarettes? My first thought was maybe you SHOULD be coughing if you're smoking and DXM would prevent that and somehow mucas builds up too much or something like that but obviously, smoking already causes a shit ton of problems so i understand i'd have to be taking this with a grain of salt, so I guess that should be rephrased as more immediate health consequences of DXM+smoking?

PS I have (awesome-ly) cut back 10 fold in my cigarette usage via electronic cigarettes, so now I only smoke like half of one if that a day (instead of half a pack) but i still do inhale some sort of heated medium into my lungs- And any speculation on tolerance reduction with DXM/nmda antagonists is welcome as well :)

I looked this up elsewhere but couldn't really find anything anywhere even near relevant other than the label that says DXM shouldnt be taken stop smokers cough
.
Thanks in advance.

Lots of people do it every time they take DXM some say if they got no cigs to smoke then they arnt gonna waste their DXM until they have smokes But technically ciggarete smoke is an MAOI which shouldn't be mixed with dxm. I never knew this about cigs until I looked it up you got me thinking. Heres what i found i never saw anything about a build up in your lungs but i don't see it being very drastic as i know lots of smokers dont hack up a lung all day coughing.
Dextromethorphan should not be taken with MAOIs because the potential for serotonin syndrome increases, which can be a life-threatening condition and occurs very quickly, due to a buildup of serotonin in the body. Dextromethorphan can also cause serotonin syndrome when used with SSRI medicines, an interaction which has been documented in clinical cases where dextromethorphan is taken at recreational doses. In studies the link between low dosages of dextromethorphan (non recreational use) and the risk for serotonin syndrome is not quite as conclusive but it still can't be to good it would be easy to overdo it I would think.

There is no way cigs are a strong enough maoi to cause a problem. Maybe if you smoked a carton. And as comfortably numb said dxm is such a shitty cough suppressant, you would most likely cough from cigs if you were going to do so.

Ya again I am actually taking therapeutic doses, I would never think to take more than 50mg ( I downed a bottle of robotussin on my way to detention once cuz i thought it would make it a little less boring, needless to say, i never even fucking think about trying to get high on DXM in any way, shape or form anymore) but ya it seems to be working as far as keeping my little "mood lift" from subs the same, so it seems like something ill be taking multiple times a week for some months to come and i wanted to make sure of DXM's interactions with my daily activities (and it seems like there is none).
