DXM "bodyload" -could diphenhydramine be useful?

Is the nausea from DXM caused by the same mechanism that causes it in 2Cs? (5ht receptor activation in the stomach and elsewhere I believe?)

If so, it seems to follow that diphenhydramine might help to deal with it, is this the case?

Does anyone have any anecdotal evidence to suggest it helps? Dextroverse suggests it does: http://dextroverse.org/wiki/Diphenhydramine

Is it not advanced? In fairness, when I saw the thread title I assumed it was some 15 year old kid, but I think Transform is actually asking a question about pharmacology. Is DPH a serotonin receptor antagonist? Or are you just asking about it being an antiemetic?

Actually diphenhydramine increases serotonin by reuptake inhibition (it and other 1st generation anti-histamines lead to the first SSRIs.) I think it has anti-nausea effects mediated by its other actions mainly its anticholinergic and antihistaminergic effects.

Damn, just typed a reply and lost it.

I was just thinking that since it helped for 2CE, a serotonegeric drug, it might also help for DXM, whose nausea I think is probably also as a result of serotonegeric activity.

Having looked up dph on wikipedia I now see that it's an SSRI and so probably not through this mechanism.

Could anyone point me in a good direction to read about or explain the relationship between serotonin and emesis and why dph helps?

Does this mean that second generation antihistamines (no SSRI action) could also be useful for controlling bodyload?

In my experience, DPH causes more body load than DXM or any other drug I have taken. However, it sounds like you are talking about nausea, and in that case I assume it would help although I have never combined the two.

Good toptic. I got nausea from syrups, gels, anything. Then when i got pure DXM and i capsuled it up, I still got nausea. I now know it wasnt just the syrups and loads of cough gels, but the DXM itself. The ONLY way i have found through experimentation that does not cause nausea is putting the dose of pure DXM in a shot glass, filling the shot glass halfway with lemon juice, and i would chase it with grapefruit juice just because for me personally i have to have grapefruit juice when i trip on DXM. But yeah all the other methods I've tried for taking DXM caused nausea and ultimately puking. I cannot stand puking and/or nausea so i was finally glad to find a way that doesnt cause puking. Also (sorry that i am not following topic exactly, i'm enjoying my medical card a bit too much) eating less than 8 hours before dosing on DXM caused puking but even an hour after a big meal, with a full stomach, I did not puke my dinner up from taking the lemon juice/DXM shot. Also i tried Dramamine and it helped for the most part except once when i took a couple DXM capsules a few hours after eating. But even without taking dramamine and on a full stomcah the lemon juice shot never caused nausea. I thought this was very interesting. I have lots of experience with DXM and nausea was always a tough hurdle for me to jump.

It's definitely caused by the DXM.

25mg dph did not really seem to help.

I ate a medium sized meal between dosing and coming up, this didn't seem to make things worse either.

If I recall, cannabis seemed to help quite a lot, perhaps I'll stick with that.

DPH is not very effective as an anti-emetic for DXM trips, though it does help somewhat. Cannabis is a lot better for most people.

I believe the nausea from a DXM trip is biphasic; the first part is from an excess of serotonin/norepinephrine due to DXM's SNRI effects, the second is NMDA-antagonist induced nystagmus, disorientation and dizziness.
