DXM and Venlafaxine (Effexor)

Okay so Dr. Bread takes Effexor 150mg daily. Dr. Bread took it at about 7AM this morning.
At about 9PM Dr. Bread took about 200mg of DXM via Robitussin.

What is Dr. Bread to expect?

Dr. Bread just found out that DXM doesn't go well with Venlafaxine, as DXM releases serotonin and venlafaxine is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, meaning your brain can be flooded with serotonin which isn't reabsorbed, potentially causing serotonin syndrome.

Given that there's about 14 hours between taking the substances, will this be a problem?

What can Dr. Bread do to avoid SS?


It's now 10pm.



EDIT: It's now 11pm and Dr. Bread feels pretty good.
Adding another 100mg of DXM.

Totaling 300mg of DXM.

I don't recommend taking anymore DXM. This is a high risk combination and when mixing high doses of DXM with SSRIs, SS is more or less predictable than a question of concern.

Also on a side note, self avoidance terms, i.e. 'Dr. Bread', are not allowed as per the BLUA. Simply put, they offer no protection legal or otherwise, and make post harder to read.

youll probably be fine

I take 100mgs of zoloft (ssri) daily and have used dxm many times with absolutely no adverse side effects you should be fine but it may affect you differently

I take 425mg of Venflafaxine/Effexor and for this reason I steer way clear of DXM.

It has a clear contraindication with DXM causing Serotonin Syndrome. For a cheap high, the risk of death is nonsensical.

In future, PLEASE post first asking for advice on harm reduction and guidance on dosage and contraindications. You seem to be mucking about with drugs that you don't know well, that's not a bright thing to do.

By the sound of it, Dr. Bread needs to go back to med school.
