Dx Lung Cancer. What to do with H addiction? Advice?

Hello Bluelighters. I've been a very long time lurker with few postings. I'm not sure this is the correct forum for this post.
I found out this past week I have Stage 3 lung cancer. I have appts w 2 different oncologists this coming week to decide who I like and where I want to treat.
My problem is the opiate addiction. What do I do? If I could just stop with no w/draw I would. I haven't smoked a cigarette in 5 days. I'm using nicotine patches and lozenges and it's really not a problem. I'm also scared to death to smoke so that helps.
If anyone has any advice I'd love to hear it.

So sorry to hear about your cancer!

I would suggest you talk to your doctors about your addiction if you're going forward with any kind of treatment, this will be especially important. There are usually ways around things, but you'll need to talk, being open and honest - there's no getting around it I'm afraid.

This isn't the time to kick the addiction. Get on something in rehab. If and when you have surgery, you need to tell them.
