I had some of a friends Durban Poison back in the fall and thought it was simply amazing.... so I got a clone off him and have had it vegging for a while, planning on growing a bunch of this stuff out in the summer. My question is, anyone know/guesstimate the finishing time on a Durban AK47 cross? The latest harvest for the area is mid/late october. Just trying to get a feel if I should stick with mostly the Sept finishers I have or throw a bunch of Durban in with the mix (really really liked the smoke, but don't want to waste 25-30% of my plots on a plant that won't finish).

look on some seed bank sites, theyd probably have a cross of that, along with other info
 
Think I can handle 8-9 weeks, I was told 7-8 week flower for my NL and it finished late sept, so another week or two is def bareable. Plus I figured the AK47 would help bring down the flowering a bit. Thanks for the site btw, it put me at first week of november for flowering to fail, which is spot on with my (limited) experience. I'm pumped now, haha, couple elbows of this stuff is going to make a very unproductive fall/winter...

wow... A durban/AK-47 cross... i wish i had the know how/space to grow something like that... I've actually smoked each strain on seperate occasions and the AK-47 was literally the best pot I've ever smoked, and I've smoked a fair amount of quality bud in my time. Durban was also really good but I feel like the AK was just on another level. I'm really interested what it would be like to smoke some shit like that... GL..
 
It's just gorgeous skrying, maybe I'll see if I can get a male clone and make some f2 seeds :)

I'll try and get ahold of a camera and get some pics up of my moms and the first couple clones...

Oooh, it's a cross of Durban and AK-47. Well in theory that should bring back the flowering, yeah. In reality it's often very different though, this is one of those crosses that sound like they may produce many different phenotypes.
 
Drod: my question is are you just growing one plant? How much space do you have dedicated to it? How much did you have to spend in equipment. SWIM has grown outdoors before and is looking to get something going indoors (something small). I've seen those like little plant habitat things almost miniture which looks like it could hold a plant or two. An answer is much appreciated!
 
Damn that strain will be heavy on the Sativa side.

Very nice.

I usually let my Serious Seeds AK47 go 9-10 weeks, so I don't know how much the AK 47 side will speed up flowering depending on the type of pheno you have.

I would just go by your eyes, don't harvest at a set time, harvest when it looks good and ready.

How big of a space do you have available?

A closet?

A bedroom?

If your willing to invest around $500 and you have a bedroom to spare, you can really produce something substantial, and work your way up as you feel comfortable.

For around $250 in a closet you can get some nice yields as well.

Either way, I can't think of a better investment.

You won't have to ever buy from dealers ever again, plus it is a very rewarding, and interesting hobby.

For the price of an ounce of two, you can supply yourself with a high quality personal stash of herb indefinitely.

My 1,000W HPS unit still works great from 5 years ago, just changed out the bulb every year or so.

Yeah, I imagine there would be a number of phenos if I were to produce seeds... breeding's so much work :P Lucky for me my moms are all from the same clone... which is from a plant that I've already smoked (back in the fall), so all the hard work is done for me searching through phenos, haha.

I have a total of about 12 square feet dedicated to my clones and moms (two level 22" x 46" areas). Right now I have 9 moms (3 strains: AK47, Durban/AK47, NLxBigBud) which occupy one shelf (6 square feet), but I'm planning on having 90+ clones ready to go outside by Mid May (have enough space for 120 tight clones). Each mom get's just under a square foot of space to grow out cuttings, but the clones that are going outdoors only have a 4"x4" (ish) footprint.

I've spent probably $300 between lights (two digital 175W MH), light movers, fans, odor control, and the closet unit. You can get away with a smaller setup under $100 as far as I'm concerned though, cool cfl's worked fine before for me (see pics), and a couple computer fans and pinesol (odor) is like $25. The CFL's i used for vegging last year produced plants that yielded just under 6 oz a piece on avg.

Here's what I'd get for a 2'x2' footprint that would very comfortably house 16 plants:
- Six 23w cool CFL's OR one 150-175w digital MH
- two computer fans with 12V adapters (one exhaust, one for movement in cab)
- 20-20-20 nutes
- homemade carbon filter to fit computer fan (may or may not need, dependent on strain, most don't stink cuz ur just vegging... but some do -> AK47)

That's the simplest and easiet way to get some plants vegging for the spring IMO. Just pay attention to 'em to keep them unstressed and well trained (lotsa branching and strong stems/branches) and you should expect 4-8 oz a piece in the fall.
