i do not think this is an unallowed question, and i am really just curious so if i dont get an answer it is no big deal.

this is in NY state. we have the special RX paper, every one is numbered, scan-able, and the practitioner must put their DEA # on the RX. I am not sure how many of these measures exist in other states.

in any case, i get a prescription for adderall each month. I get two actually, a time release and non time release for the afternoon. I went last month to the doc and they are a very busy office, once you are settled on a med you see the doc every 4 months, otherwise go in monthly to pick up your prescriptions, assuming you have no reason to see the guy. this is nice and convenient, i have been getting it since about october 09. i sense a lot of trust between this doc and his patients, as well as some laissez faire practicies of yesteryear. he is a well respected neurologist and i do not question if he over prescribes or not, i just never expected it to be "so easy" to get the scripts each month. ive heard nightmare stories about adderall. however, i do not abuse and am an adult so im assuming they have little concern.

since i have started i have switched from the brand to generic, he strongly believes in gettingg brand if you can afford it, but when my insurance plan changed i had to switch for cost reasons. he seemed to forget last month, and when i went to the pharmacy realized he wrote DAW on the XR version, not the other. it must have just been a mistake. i called up and the lady apologized, said to come right back and theyd give me a new one. so i went back. when she gives me the new rx she is very apologetic that the doc was busy that day and so was she and she was sorry for all the trouble she should have double checked. i asked her, do you want the original one back? and she shook her head no like dont be silly! keep it! , so weird, i thought for SURE she would take that back and destroy it.

so i went and filled my generic rx's and still kept the original brand one, and cant stop trying to figure out why she wouldnt take it back. my question is, if for some reason i needed to fill it, lets say i cant get to the office and ran out, or any other reason, is there a way for a doctor to VOID an Rx remotely, like a stop payment on a check? every rx has a serial #, i would think they would cancel it out, the nature of the drug that it is, but maybe they just trust people.

i mean from their perspective, whats to stop me from filling both of them, not at the same time obviously, but eventually? shouldnt they care about that? its highly irresponsible of them, and i have no intention of doing it as i would never jeopardize the relationship, i just found the seemingly trusting actions of them to be refreshing, i guess.

does anyone know the answer to my question? perhaps somone whos worked in a doctor office in ny state?

they firugred that since you didnt want to pay for it that you were not doing it for a bad reason...

it seems like a trust issue...

Without any real knowledge of pharmacies and prescriptions, I bet you ould fill it with ease and no one would know a thing
