dull needles hurt!

the needle with the bent tip doesnt even look like it would go in.
I guess its more magnified than it seems. That is a fucked up shape. Then again, ever felt what a rig thats been used 6 times feels like? You're pretty much stabbing yourself at that point; pressing it against your skin until *POP* it jumps through all of a sudden and you hope you're in the vein.

"POP" is pretty much how it feels. i cringe everytime i think about when i reused 3 needles with an 8ball of meth. and the track mark that followed was even worse.

From what I hear, that image is super magnified. Still, that tip is mangled. Using a fresh needle helps preserve your veins/tissue and also makes you less likely to miss your shots. It's well worth the expense to use a new needle every time. The thought of re-using a needle for anything but measuring makes me weak.

You notice a needle being duller after it has pierced skin just 3 times.

Yeah, you shouldn't reuse at all, but sometimes it's unavoidable. Like, when you missed a vein for whatever reason. How many of us will actually get a new syringe at that point?

But definitely, after 1 successful shot, throw it out if you value your health. Yes, your overall health, 'cause you're not just risking vein damage when you're reusing.

Unless your a drug addict and you know your bout to get high. Then you feel completely different.

I know one time I used a 20 gauge to inject and when I pulled out blood shot all the way up the bathroom wall. That shit really made me weak. How pathetic

Story: There was a thread recently where a guy was asking about whether bleach killed Hep C. I pointed him in the direction of research showing that there are doubts about whether it does outside of laboratory conditions, and as most OD'ers know Hep C can survive outside the body much longer then HIV. The poster revealed that he had injected with an old needle that his Hep C infected friend had used before; he had used bleach to clean out the needle, and he began freaking out about contracting the disease.

I asked him why he didn't use fresh rigs, and he explained that he doesn't know when he's going to score and when he does he can't be bothered to get new needles just for the rare occasion and so shares. 8)

Moral of the story: If you are going to be injecting, it's a good idea to perhaps buy clean needles and other supplies in bulk and stock them.

yea, i absolutely agree. but thats not what the original poster is asking...
he is already in the situation he is is... he cant go back in time... ugh yea i give up.

im not arguing, im just letting everyone know what i was saying so you didnt think im stupid and tell ppl to re-use needles

If you really must reuse a needle, and I too stress that you shouldn't, then you can sharpen it with a matchbox. Put a drop of water on the surface where you light the matches, and sharpen the needle carefully like sharpening a knife.

dull needle.......

You know your a junky when your syringes have all the numbers worn off and you cant find the tops.............fuck it.

where i live, large pharmacy chains sell 10 packs of syringes for $2.99 , u need a valid ID age 18+. Some pharmacies participate in safe use and sell single rigs for 40 cents, even in the ghettos they have needle exchange programs and give free needles, small bottle of water, bleach bottle, cotton, metal cap..

me knowing all this, sad to say i use the same rig over and over until it gets to the point where all the measurment marking are faded off the barrel and im twisting my toes in pain trying to get thru my skin, as a junkie at certain times i didnt give a fuck anyway...on average ill use the same needle for about 4 days the most. and surprisngly it takes a long time for my tips to get dull anyway, i always rinse my syringe out with water too a few times after i use to get rid of the blood and sticky cut residue which my cause the plunger to snap off of the lil stick its attached to..im amazed at how many IV heroin users here use brand new needles everytime..whats the trick to keeping ethics and moral values the same as before Iving heroin, or even abusing drugs?

either way if you are using clean needles after every use, and you are putting street drugs in it, ur still gonna do harm to ur physical any damn way...matter of time.

why are you amazed? That an IV drug user might actually care about their health - not have a death wish?

This is a harm reduction site. Everyone recognizes that using IV drugs is risky and may cause harm even if precautions are taken. That doesn't mean that harm reduction is pointless.

I was an IV drug user for 5 years. During most of that time I purchased and used a 100 box of rigs every month. I don't use drugs any longer, don't have Hep C, don't have HIV, and have few remaining scars 14 months after I stopped injecting drugs. See, it does work!

As someone who used the same needle dozens of times resulting in well over 100 pokes (can't usually get a vein on the first try), I can share some tips to help mitigate the damage, especially if you save all your needles, enabling you to select the least dull.

-Be very careful never to let the tip come in contact with a solid surface, such as the table/desk, the bottom of the spoon, or even your bones (it happens, particularly trying to hit veins on top of the wrist).

-You can feel the needle out for bends at the tip; running it with your fingernail will catch severe bends in the tip as you can feel it catch. Ideally if you have other dull needles, choose another one. If not, you can try to bend the tip back with a razor blade.

-How lubricated the needle is serves as a good indicator of how sharp it is; if you have a bunch of dull needles use the smoothest one as it's probably the sharpest, unless it got bent on a solid object.

-Find a strong lens to magnify the tip. I had this nightvision thing where the eyepiece screwed off and turned out to magnify things extremely well; made the needle as big as a pencil right in front of my eye. Very difficult to use as it only focused with the needle 1mm away from the glass with a fraction of a mm range where it could move (since I had to hold it up to get light in back of it); but it made it big enough to effectively see surface features and select the least dull out of my set of dull needles.

thank you, you answered his question quite well.
The part about the solid surface is VERY IMPORTANT. even if you only use each needle once you have to be careful about that. you drop it or something and just think oh thank god its not broke, but you dont realize you just made a huge bend in the tip! put that under a microscope and it will look like u are trying to get a spoon into ur vein.

Sorry I can't read this whole thread because the answer is too obvious but if you can't rustle up a needle exchange in Philly with a little bit of Google, god help you.

I'm sure you can with a verry soft nail file, and alot of rubbing alcohol. be careful u dont want to fuck ur up. im no doctor but i reccomnd you hit up freds or some pharmy.

Yeah you can scrape the tip and have nice metal dust shits around to shoot into your bloodstream but then again there's always free, anonymous needle exchanges! You don't need to turn anything in or show ID man!
