Dry skin from hand washing -- alternative soaps?

^ Why not just wear gloves while washing dishes to prevent your hands from drying out? Too much of a pain taking them on and off? :P

its hard to explain but its not really an option

we have to go quickly from washing dishes to preparing food etc and gloves would be slippery and in the way

^ Dr. Bronner's -- the very product that was referenced in rm-rf's first post. :)

This stuff is incredible. I will never go back to those chemical concoctions that are supposed to cleanse and make me smell good. Dr. B cleared up my dandruff a lot and also allowed my hair to do its natural thing, which looks awesome. Ever since I switched I've been growing my hair out and absolutely love it!

i have this tea tree shampoo by trader joe's. i recommend it. It doesn't dissolve all the oils off of your hair like the harsher ones. As a result, my hair is not nearly as frizzy and chaotic.

I used to have this problem in high school before my anxiety was under control. I washed until my knuckles bled, then I ended up in the psych ward. Not a fun way to spend junior prom :\

I still wash more often than most people, but not enough to cause dryness. If yours is that severe, it might be time to look into a psychological approach to reduce the compulsion (no offense intended!). In the meantime, here's all the tips I can think of. Hope it helps!

*Use cool water instead of hot

*Avoid soaps containing alcohol

*Use less soap

*Pat dry gently with a towel after washing

*Apply a moisturizing product as needed. Lotions are good, but you want something that says "cream", "butter", "oil" or "moisturizer" on the label.
