Hello,
I have been playing guitar for a very long time now but i have been wondering about substances that work well with guitar. I was thinking MDMA, what do you think about playing while on that?
Any answers help alot,
Peace and love
Cheeseman :)

MDMA, yes, that's a good one. Spent most of my time in my first band railing molly before shows, actually really it helped my knowledge of the fretboard. Feels like you can't do any wrong!!

Others:
-Cocaine
-Amphetamines
-Alcohol (just a few drinks, you'll know your buzz line especially if you are playing a show)

No No's
-Benzos (would work good for performance anxiety but I can never play anything on benzos)
-Various other sleeping pills

Amphetamines! I don't really care for them much in general but adderall does something to my creativity that can't be denied. Add a couple of bong rips and your good for hours.

Although I don't play guitar, gabapentin and cannabis is my go to combo for creativity. MDMA is too euphoric for me to do anything productive on it, during the come-up and peak at least. You want something that's not too intoxicating as this can become a distraction and/or impair you motor skills.

weed. some strains are better than others... couch-lock vs. euphoria and all that.

everything else in my arsenal pulls downward too hard to make creativity very viable. enjoying music is another matter. but for playing, it's weed or even completely straight for me.

I went out on a limb and dosed mdma before a gig and i must say all was well, very well indeed i felt the music inside me, and i played to a high quality of standard.

dextroamphetamine make me super productive. The other night high on focalin xr I worked for 5 hours straight on a paper and it is the best thing I've ever created. Although it made me a bit shaky so idk if that would be good for guitar. Btw focalin xr is twice as potent as adderall and adderal as amphetamine in it

Coming from a serious guitarist (I'm no legend but I can safely say that guitar and music are the only things that I'm good at as far as hobbies and past times go), most drugs are going to effect how you play guitar. Frankly, none of them are going to truly make you "better" at playing guitar, they will just give you a change of perspective.

Alcohol is great obviously. It loosens you up, gets you out of your head and encourages you to break out of your "comfort zone". I'm sure I'm not the only guitarist who gets into ruts. The problem with alcohol though is knowing when to stop. Having a slight buzz on might make you a little more creative, but it's a fine line between buzzed and being to drunk to properly fret a guitar. Opioids for that matter are similar in my experience. They break down those creative walls and enable you to think a little more out of the box, but if you get too high, you will just nod and again, not be able to fret your guitar.

Amphetamines on the other hand will give you a superficial boost in your playing abilities. The increased attention to detail and focus that amphetamines give will allow you to play faster and more accurately in my opinion, but unfortunately they tend to turn you into a robot; a guitar robot. I would frequently use amphetamines and play guitar and be excited about how much better I was playing (in a technical sense), but I would always end up mindlessly playing scales and chord patterns with no real boost in creativity.

Cannabis and psychedelics in my opinion, are the most useful substances in terms of boosting your creativity. They've always gotten me out of my own head and have put a whole new perspective on my playing.

I'm sure there are a lot of other different substances to discuss in relation to playing music, but these are the ones that really jumped out at me.
