Could someone point me in the right direction regarding resources on this topic.
 
Google "drug induced" then add your disorder then add your drug. Pot amphetamines and pot are particually bad
 
I'm pretty nuts, have to take alot of meds but acid reminds me what life is about, ecstacy makes me mental on it and the come down near kills me.
 
Schizophrenia is defined as a mental disorder that is distinguished by distortions in the everyday perception of reality. People who have schizophrenia have a hard time knowing what is "real" or not.

The closest drug that resembles that definition is acid imo.
 
^ well any dissociative as well can do that, though other drugs can mimic that state as well, such as paranoid manias from stim abuse (note the term paranoid schizophenic)

e may be referring to anti-schizophrenic agents...OP is not really clear on his intent
 
The drug that will induce schizophrenia the quickest is phencyclidine (PCP). It does so with even more haste if you smoke it, because the heat breaks it down into 1-phenyl-1-cyclohexene (PC) and piperdine. PC remains psychoactive, but it's even more damaging to the NMDA receptors.

Under the influence of this, I had convinced myself that I was crazy/schizophrenic. When I cameto the next morning, though, I was fine. I see how regular use can quickly change the user's cognitive function in ways similar to schizophrenia.

Edit: to anyone actually wanting to try PCP, it is thought that 5-HT2A agonists, like many of the tryptamines for example, can reduce and sometimes completely inhibit the damaged caused by PC and PCP to the NMDA receptors.

I have read a paper that stated that they didn't find any correlation between marijuana and the onset of schitsophrenia. Furthermore, it seemed as if those who smoked marijiuana and had Schitsophrenia o have milder cases that were less intrusive to their lives.

I don't currently have the citation for this paper, but I will try to find it when I have the time. I am really busy right now.... (you know.. the end of term and such....)
 
Yeah statistically the drug that is most often linked to development of schizophrenia is heavy alcohol use, although that could just be the most common because so many people do it.

If you have borderline schizophrenia, schizoid personality etc, then most drugs are probably best avoided, especially weed, meth, hallucinogens or dissociatives. The evidence for whether they trigger schizophrenia is still not that solid, but schizophrenia is pretty nasty once it gets going properly so its probably best not to risk it!

Oddly enough though I read some research which suggested that opiate use can actually delay the progression of schizophrenia, so of all drugs those would probably be the best choice. Withdrawals might be a potential trigger though.
