I think they find a lower level dealer/ user and just work up the chain. Atleast thats how it always seems to me. But everyone wants their story to be told and I've never heard of any being arrested from being on this or any other show (doesnt mean hasnt happened though)

It depends on the person though, some people have big egos and being on TV as the "person who owns (city)" may fit them very well in their eyes. But a few of my friends said they wouldnt mind being the junkie on the show so I know that part must be easy. Especially when they show those 18 year olds who think they are cool smoking blunts i think thats real.

On a side note i would love to work on the show, they must have hook ups for awesome shit all over the US.

ABSOLUTELY!!! If I was on the production crew, I think I would be extremely tempted, like when they are deep in mexico, or south america, (where heroin is like $2000. for a big fucking brick!!)...somehow make it seem to customs, its all for the show and we NEED to bring it into the US! LOL

I would bet anything there are probably some users on the crew/staff...now that would be a damn good job!

I could see very lower level dealers MAYBE agreeing to something like this, but everything about them would have to be disguised, Id even still be a bit leery tho, even just being a user, plus, once you get up past the lower level neighborhood dealers, I highly doubt the mid level dealers that supply the lower level dealers, I just dont see ANYONE at this level agreeing to anything like this (unless the pay is crazy high), but even with that, I doubt it.

Plus, the more I think about this, I dont think its a good idea for anyone in the drug trade, whether they are low level junkies or high level suppliers, I dont think its good to give the PIGS anymore info about how all this works...if the right PIGS watched a show in their city, they MAY be able to learn something about how the supply chain is operated, or similar info. Lets face it, if it came down to it, the production crew and/or the network airing it, WOULD most definitely take the police side, and COULD give out these peoples identities, or where they live/operate, etc.

So long as there's nothing to connect it back to me with, it's really not that risky. Not that I'm doing anything for free, they better be paying me pretty good to put myself out there like that, but if they obscure my face, voice and surroundings, how could anyone know it's me? I don't have any identifying markers like tattoos and the only scar that would be recognizable isn't in a place that would ever be exposed on camera.

I get the line of thinking, but ethically I dont think the production crew could just go tell the police ooo this person does this, this person does that... and also the cops already know alot about whats going on anyways, but knowing and being able to prove are to different things... the best line from this show was on the dealers said everyone in the world can think your a drug dealer but not everyone in the world can know your a drug dealer... but I was just sayin that every show Ive watched it seems like they find one supply chain and film as many levels as they can... like the mexican super meth, they showed someone make it, someone transport it to the border, someone take it across, someone get the package and so on and so on

It's standard that a journalist doesn't turn over their source. If they do, word will get out and no one will talk to them anymore.

I was watching the episode "Meth Boom Montana" last night and one of the dealers was talkin' about how he just gets his meth delivered by USPS... while waiting for the package, several times they showed his mailbox, house, and the neighborhood he lives in. I'd bet money he's either been reported or had a package intercepted since the shows airing, he doesn't exactly live in a large town either. Hope they paid him well 8)

At first I assumed that National Geographic must primarily be interviewing low-level people who are exaggerating their own importance, but after watching the Super Meth episode I am reconsidering. Those crystals were enormous and the people interviewed in Mexico were definitely dealing with huge amounts. Yea, Ive seen episodes where they are (apparently) interviewing the mexican runner who deal in the 100s of pound loads....something tells me NO ONE at that level would ever agree to being on tv, at that level, they most likely report directly to cartel bosses...and I do know they would kill someone who did something like this.

I think they get low level dealers/ users, and just dramatize the rest, using actors....think about it besides fearing the cartels, if the production crew was along for the ride when the person being interviewed, was caught by police with 100s of pounds...the pro crew would be in major trouble for even being there.

I do like this show, but sometimes the dealers get on my nerves...it's like it's a guy and his friends they have all the coke and weed laid out showin off there guns talking about how they 'run' the city...if I was high enough that I ran the city I definatley woulnd't want to be filmed with my crew, that's for damn sure, but other than that great show. The one they did, think if was for Memphis where they talked about how heroin has taken over since the Coke Kingpin had gotten busted...they guys on that one, that robbed the dealers made me fuckin' sick. Probly dead now since, well someone probly watched the show and was like "I know that muthafucka he robbed my trap house!" But seriously...what the fuck were those guys bragging about, just that they robbed people who have the guts to go out and sell and there a buncha pussies hiding behind guns robbing them..hated those fuckers!

Yea but theres so many ppl in the game that as long as you dont show your face or where you live, what can the cops really do? The cops know alot more then people wana think they do.... esp the feds... Even if the cops watched the show figured out who you were and saw you with a 100 lbs of what ever, its like well they filmed that 6-12 months ago and they cant prove its real so cant get a warrent off of that... yea they could start watchin ya but thats about it and if your that deep in the game they prob already know who you are.... but knowing someones a drug dealer and being able to prove someones a drug dealer are two very different things

I think it's pretty obvious that some of them are just actors like the cartel members or the people that mule for or buy from the cartels. They had this one chick on there talking about how she would transport for the cartels and got busted with a shitload of weight and now is having to pay it off. I can't picture someone in her position or a member saying that on cam even with their identity hidden because of the fear of getting chopped up into little pieces if that info got out. Just how the fuck do they contact a cartel member for an interview. Even some of the the low end guys are hard to believe though. The other week there was this episode with this dealer and he wore a pov cam at some party and it showed him going around selling ethylone as molly to everybody. He was introducing him self under the same nick name he id him self as when the crew interviewed him. He just had a bandanna wrapped around the bottom half of his face and it looked like it'd be fairly easy to pick up who he was if it was somebody you knew well. I was just waiting for somebody to pull out a test kit at that party and a shit storm to start.

How do they get contact with dealers? They start out at drug treatment clinics. I got introduced to a documentary producer by a key worker years ago. I let him ask a few questions before I said I wanted nothing to do with it.

Yea, I dont buy the interviews with supposed high level buyers and cartel members...there is just NO fucking way, anyone directly involved with the cartels would ever go on camera, about ANYTHING. I doubt anyone at that level would do it for 6 figures either, as they know someone is always watching and they would likely end up in pieces or a barrel of acid.

Low level dealers in the US are one thing, but when it comes to mexican runners who deal in the 100s of pounds or even tons of dope,coke, meth, etc. that is something else entirely.

Producers MAY be able to get the poor mexican farmers who work the poppy and cocoa fields, and live on $5. a week, but no one above this level imo. (in mexico or south america anyway)

Has anyone seen the molly madness episode yet? So it mostly takes place in SF/Bay area and one of the so called molly dealers was actually selling methylone, which he admitted on camera yet told people he had "that pure". Anyways, most people except for this group of dudes at a BBQ in Oakland covered their faces, but again most of the drug dealers didn't make a great effort to make themselves and locations secretive. Also, I was amazed by how many people bought these guys "pure molly" at molly prices and didn't notice any difference. This episode was like a blueprint for how to make money by selling RCs. They even went to the post office and showed how workers inspect the packages and what they look for. Thanks drugs inc.
