AN AUSTRIAN woman has pleaded guilty to importing a commercial quantity of the drug "ice" into Australia concealed in Toblerone and Ferrero Rocher chocolates.
Nicole Demirkiran, 31, was found with 0.2 grams of the methamphetamine in a plastic zip-lock bag in her handbag during a search by customs officers after she arrived at Melbourne airport from Thailand on March 11.
But X-rays of her baggage and sniffer dogs failed to uncover a larger stash inside the chocolate wrappers, which she was carrying in a duty-free bag.
Federal police charged Demirkiran over the ice found in her handbag, and she was released on bail. They later found 1366 grams in the chocolate wrappers in her hotel room after a tip from customs about drugs being concealed in a similar manner previously.
The drug was wrapped in plastic, then covered with foil inside the four triangular Toblerone packages. It was divided between 52 of 60 Ferrero Rocher chocolates contained in two boxes, encased in plastic and resealed in the chocolates' gold foil.
Demirkiran pleaded guilty in Melbourne Magistrates Court yesterday to a charge of importing a commercial quantity of ice.
Demirkiran initially told police she had bought the chocolates from a man at the airport as a present for her husband and four-year-old son.
She later admitted accepting them from members of a criminal group from Austria.
Demirkiran told police that a friend, since jailed for bringing drugs into Hong Kong, introduced her to the group.
She said someone was going to contact her about picking up the drugs once she arrived in Australia, and she was to be paid about $5000 to $7000.
Magistrate Dan Muling remanded Demirkiran to appear in the County Court in October.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. She would have got away with it if she hadn't have taken her personal stash on the plane with her

Ya..
But really who cares. Fuck meth, and if some people gotta suffer from it being illegal, so be it. when is the last time you heard about the wonderous effects of ice?
I doubt anyone will be soaking their skin cancer in meth and bandaging it any time soon lol

While the damage from pill and injection amphetamines was evident from the '30s culminating in the late '60s ("Speed Kills", the common sentiment that Meth/Rx speed killed the hippie counterculture), the 'Meth Lab' phenomenon, 'Ice', vaporizing/Chasing Meth, and all of the drug subculture anomolies and things we associate with speed are due to prohibition. More people used Amphetamines when they were even more widely prescribed than they are now- but it wasn't as "dirty" or dangerous. The subculture, clandestine lab activity and health problems specific to addicts of illegal drugs cause most of the damage. This is a substance where I certainly see the argument of drug prohibition.

But the problem is that drug prohibition created this problem, and now it wants to put the genie back in the bottle. It's a very similar situation to the Guantanamo detainees who are not guilty of a crime but are too dangerous to set free.

What an idiot, she would of been golden if she was smart enough to not have drugs in her fucking handbag.

Sdripper, it is ignorant imho to think that the drugs you like should be legal (I am assuming as a Blue Lighter that is your opinion, correct me if I am wrong) but meth shouldn't be. Don't you believe in personal freedom? Because that is what it comes down to, an individuals choice whether they want to use a substance or not, the Government has no right to intervene.

My momma said, "Life is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get."

All drugs and poisons should be legal. It should be a personal choice if you want to be sober, happy, high, euphoric, sick or dead. Independence Day? "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Are people living in freedom or under tyranny?

I did not say it "should be illegal" nor did I say that the drugs I like should be legal. You misread.

I was merely stating that anyone trafficing Meth will get little sympathy from me.

Tchort, I loved your post. ~~

Huaca you and me both know this is no free society that we live in..:|

Although I do despise meth with a PASSION.

Meth is near the bottom of my list of drug preference. I have no desire to use meth and that is my own personal decision. In a free society, adults have the freedom to make personal choices whether it results in good or bad for themselves. Unfortunately freedom is dead and tyranny rules. Government presumes to make those personal decisions for everyone.
