Drugs for auditory enhancement/distortion?

Hey guys. Finally signed up after a year of casual lurking, I can't think of anywhere better to help me figure out the answer to this question.

Prompted by a discussion on another forum, I was wondering if anybody knew of drugs that specifically enhance sound and hearing? Hallucinogens (particularly 2C-E, for me) allow you to dissect music and other auditory stimuli, as well as enhancements like being able to pick out individual sounds in a sound-rich environment that you'd never be able to do normally (e.g. picking out a specific conversation across a relatively crowded room). It's one of my favourite aspects of hallucinogens and one which seems to get overlooked a lot... I've looked through trip reports of threshold hallucinogen doses and not found anything to do with auditory distortion, but whether that's because the effects aren't there or simply aren't focused on or considered important, I can't tell. I'm going to try a threshold dose of 2C-E in the next few days with a view to looking into it myself, but ideally I'd like to know if there's anything that mimics these effects (or different auditory effects) without other strong effects. Easily obtainable or not, recreational or not, it doesn't matter, I'm mostly interested in it as a theoretical thing at the moment.

My second question is, is such a drug even possible? I don't know enough about the auditory system to know what modulation is possible, or if it's possible without other sensory systems being affected too. Maybe someone here does.

Cheers, guys.

Nitrous Oxide

not so much enhancing as it is just plain awesome
itll make your ears like....wahwahwahwahwahwAHWAHWAHWAH
haha anyone whos done it should understand :P
but yeah its too bad the duration is so short:(
if only my best friend was a dentist....

music on NO2 is tight as ever IMO

I'd second the nitrous oxide (if used sparingly) and the DIPT ONLY if you don't already experience ear-ringing often as it can make it worse ): Thank god I don't have problems with that... yet...

Nitrous Oxide really does make music AMAZING, the only drug that has ever topped NO2 with sound enhancement is LSD, but that's a whole different ballgame (:

Dipt was a blast, everything sounded so weird I couldn't stop laughing. And the laughing sounded so weird I laughed even harder. It gets old pretty quick, though.

Lsd at moderate to high doses causes insane auditory distortion. When someone is talking there voice hits a very low octive then raises up to a high octive then right back down the the low.

Dmt also causes very intense auditory distortion. The crinkling sound with the undertone of the digerydo. To me its the sound of the universe vibrating. A high end OHM

Most notable:

DiPT
N2O
5-MeO-DiPT (Foxy)

DiPT is a trip, to say the least. Make sure you have plenty of free time... An exclusively audio-distorting psychedelic. Lots of pitch distortion and deepening.
N2O produces 'helicopter' distortions, wah-wah's, and sound bending effects (among a euphoric rush)
5-MeO-DiPT (Foxy) is a great trip, at higher doses I experience lots of auditory effects, some similar to regular DiPT.

i noticed auditory distortions wing 5-meo-dipt as well. it made womens voices deeper. I thought everyone was a drag queen. it was pretty wierd.

With current tools, one cannot really dramatically enhance sensation without drastically altering cognition.

ebola

True, but I am sick of DiPT (and it's analogues) being the only game in town for this area. DiPT has a fixed effect that gets old real fast.

Remember the bluelight thread where the term "euphonogen" was suggested to describe a drug that would enhance music greatly? The auditory equivalent of MDMA, considered the best/standard (majority opinion) entactogen/empathogen, or LSD considered the best/standard (majority opinion) psychedelic hallucinogen?

If we had a drug that changed audition into something spectacular and enjoyable with euphoria, we'd have the drug. No visuals, but auditory hallucinations galore. Music sounds deeper/wider/bigger hallucinating that the vocalist is singing to you, etc. These effects can be had with other drugs, but no drug focuses on them primarily.

edit: ^i was reminded of it through the name/title 'Androphonos' coming to mind.

anyhow, i also think its a nice term; but as others noted before, i can't really think of a drug that would specifically fall in that category in the way mdma is classified as entacto-/empathogen.

Oh but entactogen is a matter of degree too, isn't it? While MDMA is an entactogen par excellence, there are psychedelics that appear to have entactogenic qualities (some of the 2C-halos for example) without really being full-on consistent entactogens. Perhaps we have yet to discover the euphonogen par excellence, so all we have is various drugs that are primarily something else (psychedelic, or stimulant, or sedative), but which have mild euphonogenic properties as well. Maybe by considering whether chemical structures relate to the degree of euphonogenesis, one might be able to predict which structures might produce more clearly euphonogenic properties.

DiPT could be considered a bad euphonogen. By no means is it the MDMA of auditory enhancement. Cacophonogen would be more fitting.

right, DIPT IMO/IME is only good for novelty purposes, not much fun tho, huge effect on audio which is the novelty but music would not b enjoyable on it, only weird.
LSD/LSA/DMT are the best i think
K/PCP are also really great
throwin some MDMA wouldn't hurt
this is pretty simple, i dont think much discussion is needed to answer this
I really don't see how N2O would b any good for your purposes, it has a huge audio effect by itself but not really on other sounds, just that wahawhawahahwa effect everyone is familiar with. I don't think hooking your self upto a steady stream of nitrous would b as great you'd think

Music is fucking unbelievable on LSD... It's like some kind of alien yet profoundly intimate language of poetic sounds and tapestries flowing together in such a way as to immerse you in this amazing world where everything comes together in such a seemingly cohesive, harmonious manner that it defies reason.. Too real .. too beautiful to put into words...

MDA + MDMA and 4-MMC + bk-MDMA are awesome combos for music enhancement as well

I just reserve the word unbelievable for LSD-enhanced music.. because it truly is hard to believe what you're seeing and hearing

Hopefully i'll have a chance to sample DMT and others one day, since music-enhancement is what i seek in most drug experiences. As a musician, i guess that is no surprise :)

Happy trails~
