enjoyable Music on LSD..

Hello All..

I am going to using LSD for the first time tonight & have been asked to bring a music CD, do any of you have any music you reccomend putting on it that would sound good while the lsd is in effect?

thankyou,
Michael.

If you're trying acid for the first time, just listen to anything that makes you feel comfortable, something you're used to.

Acid can be intense the first time, and sometimes you just need familiar surroundings, including music, to relax you through it.

Good luck, be safe...

<-- LSD didn't follow the Dead for 20+ years because they sucked.

internet archives has pretty much every dead show on there, Id suggest something from the early-mid 70's, or early 90's (the 90's shows obviousely are going to have better sound recording)

a MUST LISTEN TO SONG is eye's of the world. If you fel like realy going out there try to find some darkstar, but thats is a pretty far out jam.

allmond brothers are good too, some post LSD beatles, STS9, Moe, Good ol' one man band Keller williams (but Id save that for the come down, after smoking some lovely buds) String Cheese, phish, perpeptual grove.... shit, anything Jammy will be awesome. Alot of people get down with repetititve beats though, so you may find more luck in the techno/trance side of things, which actualy makes sts9 a good choice for both.

In the end it all comes down to personal preference, but I would recommend musical with a neutral/positive emotional leaning, i.e. I wouldn't suggest death metal or gangster rap, even if that is what you normally listen to. Also sad songs + LSD are not always a good mix. Music is key, it can change everything. Also I would recommend adequate lighting as I have found that turning on or off a single light can profoundly influence the emotional direction a trip takes.

Back to music, I would highly suggest the album 'TNT' by the band Tortoise. It is instrumental post-rock/indie/jazz/electronic amazingly produced, performed, mixed etc. Almost perfect for tripping in my experience.

Another great album I have found for tripping is the album "Takk" by Sigur Ros, it really gives helps give an otherworldly/spiritual direction to the trip in my experience. It is very powerful, but because the vocals are in Icelandic the lyrical content doesn't influence the direction of the trip. When you are definitely starting to take off, I would start the album from track 3 and play through to the end.

If you are looking to be 'tripped out' by music I would recommend Shpongle and a good pair of headphones, especially the first two albums.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida . . . the Original Acid Rock song.

This sucker is 17+ minutes long (which feels like 3 hours).
It was written to be listened to while Trippin'.
I like it. You might too.

But, certainly I would recommend you to listen to some of your Favorite songs.
The Trip can POWER the music to a new High.

I recomend something with intelegence to it. Try Bad Religion, Sage Francis, Reveille, etc. Lsd gives you a good opportunity to really understand the music. Dont waste it.

^ I think Bad Religion is a bit edgy for my taste on acid.

I'll second the nod toward Allman bros., Grateful Dead and other jam music. Jazz in general, too -- Melvin Sparks, John Scofield, Medeski Martin & Wood.. Google around for some "acid jazz." Named so for a reason.

Shpongle is incredible. If you're into trance music, some ambient trance is excellent too. Another ambient music choice is Boards of Canada.

Good old fashioned classic rock can feel pretty good too, especially during the come-down. When you're all floating back to earth, smoke a bowl and have some GnR blaring.

What do you listen to sober/stoned? Chances are it'll be good. (Though if you're heavy into darker music like the goth/industrial set, I'd suggest perhaps avoiding that for eight hours or so.)

Shpongle is some awesome psytrance
..its not really psytrance. . just pure psychedelia!

but yeah. . listen to something happy that you normall like :) something that puts you in a good mood!

I fucking love classic rock when dosed at work. when I hear geddy lee's voice come on for closer to the heart.. OH FUCK YES! or stairway to heaven by Led Zeppelin... ohhh, I cant wait to get back in there.

Music causing psychedelic mindsets (while sober)

Not sure if this is quite the right forum for this. But, here it goes

Does anyone else ever 'trip' off of music, even when 100% sober? ie - not even weed.

I'd rank music pretty up there on the list of things that are 'important to me', and have noticed that there are a few songs / CDs / records which seem to re-create a pretty trippy mindset for me. Its not just a headspace, but can also manifest itself in OEVs, CEVs, and '3rd eye' visions.

Two CDs which seem to do the trick pretty much every time are the Plastikman records Closer and Consumed. When I put these onto my headphones, I start to feel very 'disconnected' from the world around me, listen to it long enough - and I start to notice visual changes of the world around me - my sense of perspective gets skewed, distances seem to stretch on for longer than normal, colours seem a bit bolder, and I get a bit of a 'thick black outline' around everything. In an odd way, it almost feels as if I'm walking on a movie set.

I am also very 'visual' in how I think about music, I often invision rather complex scenes to go along with the music, but there are times where I can actually see/imagine them - but not really, its a strong visual sense but not actually *seeing* them (if that makes any sense).

Other songs just can force such a drastic change in my general mood its almost uncanny. DE9: Transitions for me, is more effective then taking an ativan for helping me relieve anxiety. There has been many exams where I have been a near wreck prior to the exam, popping this onto my iPod, and its like crawling into my happiest, most content and at ease place - and all the anxiety melts away and gives me big confidence boost.

anywho..just rambling a bit - anyone get similar things?

what your describing is what music does to me when im lying in bed listening with my eyes closed, its pretty much normal for musical people, are you also able to hear songs in your head when you think about them

Music has more power over my feelings than any human ever could, I could be listening to the happiest song ever written then on comes a song that triggers emotions and im balling my eyes out. LOL most of the time this music is emo or something with a guitar. Its unlikely electronic music would ever do this.

Led Zeppelin in particular is one group that totally trips my mind out. They have a very psychedelic feel to them, I love them alot. Also Pink Floyd. its cliche but true.

Yes, after LSD use i've noticed i can trip in a very relaxed way when listening to music and my mind will just drift off more than it normally would if i hadn't started doing drugs.

music is designed to play on your brain. . :) I'm surprised more musicians arent studying psychology & neuroscience in order to make their music have a better impact on people.

or they just take lots of acid and other groovy drugs

Those Bose "Noise Cancellation" headphones are fuckin' sick for tripping. They're expensive ($100?) but worth it IMO. It's insane putting those headphones on blasting trippy music while walking around just taking in the sights. It's almost as if you're in your own little world. Especially if you're listening to some deep, multi-layered music because those headphones allow you to hear all the layers very clearly. Most people who are passionate about music, musician or not, can visualize the music they're hearing, and it's even more obvious when you're tripping. But yeah, music can put me into a psychedelic mindspace.
