Drug raid on Canberra lounge bar

I'd just like to say many a time I have popped an old pill and headed down to South Pac... It really is the only way to be able to put up with the 16 year olds dancing to destiny's child...
Sure made for some interesting nights... :-)

What do you mean it looks good for the politicians? Raiding a club with 50 cops sniffer dogs and all for 21 little baggies and ONE FUCKING arrest? thats not good press, thats just showing the entire city what we already know - the police are a bunch of FUCKING REATARDS. The article in the Cbr times said 'phase one involved raiding major drugs dealers in canberra' My ass it did. There's still enuff 'major dealers' in canberra that no ones having any trouble getting stuff. Geez. Stupid ass police why dont you do something usful with your time, like stopping fucking junkies breaking into my car for spare change. fuckers.

Just heard this interesting piece of news from a friend.
Apparently, the reason Lot 33 was raided was because there was supposed to be a big drug deal going on between some Cabramatta dealers, and the Rebels. The location was supposed to be Lot 33, hence the reason they had 50 cops. Instead, the deal went down at a hotel a few streets away, and that room got trashed...
This is some info that you could choose not to believe, but it's from a very reputable source...

Lot 33 man 'threw ecstasy'
By DAVID McLENNAN
A part licensee of Lot 33 threw a bag full of drugs towards patrons when police raided the Kingston nightclub earlier this month, the ACT Magistrates Court heard yesterday.
Justin Paul Harvey, 28, of Kingston, pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing MDMA (ecstasy).
In their statement of facts, police said they raided Lot 33 and Harvey's Kingston unit about 1.30am on Sunday, August 12. "On police arrival at Lot 33, the defendant was observed at the staff entrance to the bar at the rear of the night-club. When he became aware of the police presence he was seen to walk quickly behind the bar towards the other end," police said. "He was pursued and was seen to take a small plastic clip-seal bag out of his back pocket. Police took hold of the defendant who managed to pass the bag into his free hand and throw it over the bar counter towards a group of the nightclub's patrons.
"The bag fell from sight on to the floor of the club. Police maintained sight of the area and shortly after retrieved a small clip-seal bag containing five green-coloured tablets. The defendant denied that they were his, stating that he had just freaked out when he saw the police and threw a small piece of white paper over the bar which contained a love note from a female admirer. The area was thoroughly searched and no note was found."
Police also found several plastic clip-seal bags that contained 14 coloured tablets in Harvey's bedroom when they searched his house.
Harvey's lawyer, James Sabharwal, told the court his client was sorry, and embarrassed by the position he had found himself in.
Chief Magistrate Ron Cahill said he accepted the drugs were for Harvey's own use.
"But it is still illegal and should be discouraged," he said.
He fined Harvey $700.

Does anyone know the actual law relating to these raids - can I be searched for simply being in a club? Can I be searched if a sniffer dog reacts to me? Is that reasonable grounds for a police officer? Is dumping everything and anything on the floor the best method to avoid arrest? Can the cops enter a toilet cubicle?

this is from Redfern legal center news page:
If approached by a sniffer dog team and you do not wish to participate in a search, you should indicate that you do not wish to participate in a random search. If the search proceeds you should ask that your objection to the search be recorded. If you are charged you do not have to say anything beyond your name and address until they have sought legal advice.

I don't know the veracity of this, but I had heard that the raid on Lot 33 had also discovered a jar with 1500 pills and the almost $40,000 unaccounted cash.
Does anyone else know if this is just someone confusing stories or what?
Presumably this was the case, as someone would have been charged for it.
